UPSC ESE Exam selection involves 3 steps as follows

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
  2. Mains Examination (Conventional Type papers)

  • The question paper will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions).
  • The question papers will be set in Hindi as well as English.
  • For each wrong answer, one‐third (1/3rd) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
  • If a question is left blank there will be no penalty for that question.

Personality Test (Stage‐III):

Candidates who qualified in the Mains Exam are permitted for the Personality Test. So candidates can go through the Test pattern and prepare accordingly.

  • The Personality Test will carry 200 Marks.
  • Marks obtained by the candidates in the Stage‐I: (Preliminary/Stage‐I) Examination, Stage‐II:(Main/Stage‐II) Examination and Stage‐III (Personality Test) would determine their final ranking.
