UPSC ESE Syllabus & Exam Pattern 2023:
Aspirants should be aware of the updated exam pattern before starting their preparation. So candidates are advised to refer the exam pattern before viewing the syllabus. We have also listed the selection process of UPSC ESE 2023 Exam.
Selection Procedure:
UPSC ESE Exam selection involves 3 steps as follows
- Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
- Mains Examination (Conventional Type papers)
- Personality Test

UPSC ESE Prelims Exam Pattern:

Paper-II | Questions on Related Engineering Streams | 300 | 3 hours |

- The question paper will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions).
- The question papers will be set in Hindi as well as English.
- For each wrong answer, one‐third (1/3rd) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
- If a question is left blank there will be no penalty for that question.

Personality Test (Stage‐III):
Candidates who qualified in the Mains Exam are permitted for the Personality Test. So candidates can go through the Test pattern and prepare accordingly.
- The Personality Test will carry 200 Marks.
- Marks obtained by the candidates in the Stage‐I: (Preliminary/Stage‐I) Examination, Stage‐II:(Main/Stage‐II) Examination and Stage‐III (Personality Test) would determine their final ranking.
