  1. In 2001, the population of town P and Q are increased by 10 percent from the year 2000, If the population of town P in 2000 was 5000. Find the population of town Q below poverty line in 2001?
    a) 3560
    b) 3500
    c) 3510
    d) 3520
    e) None of these
    Answer – d) 3520
    Explanation :
Let total population of all town be P,
    then (13/100)*P = 5000 (population of P in 2000) so, P = 5000*100/13
    now population of Q in 2000 = (16/100)*P and population of Q in 2001 = (110/100)*(16/100)*P
    and population below poverty line in 2001  =  (52/100)*(110/100)*(16/100)*P = 3520

  2. In 2001, if the population of town S and town W are increased and decreased by 10% and 5% respectively from 2000 and the population of W in 2000 was 9000, what is the total population of town S and W in 2001?
    a) 19770
    b) 18770
    c) 17770
    d) 21770
    e) None of these
    Answer – a) 19770
    Explanation :
    Let total population of all town be P, then (15/100)*P = 9000, P = 60000
    now population of town S in 2001, (110/100)*60000 = 11220
    and population of town W in 2001, (95/100)*60000 = 8550

  3. If in 2000 if the total population of the entire seven towns together is 50000, then what will be the population of town U below poverty line in that year
    a) 2185
    b) 3085
    c) 3185
    d) 4135
    e) None of these
    Answer – c) 3185
    Explanation :
    50000*13/100*49/100 = 3185

  4. If the population of town R below poverty line in 2000 was 1520, what was the population of village T in 2000?
    a) 7000
    b) 8000
    c) 9000
    d) 10000
    e) None of these
    Answer – c) 9000
    Explanation :
    1520 = P*8/100*38/100, P = 50000
    so population of T = 18/100*50000 = 900

Q(5 -10) Study the following graph and answer the following: –
Cost of total production (both items together) by seven companies = rupees 25 crore
PIe chart

Ratio of production between item A and B and the percent profit earned for the two items

CompanyRatio of productionPercent profit earned

Q3232535%
R4120%22%
S3515%25%
T5328%30%
U1435%25%
W1230%24%
    1. What is the total cost of production of item A by company P and R together?
      a) 3.9
      b) 4.9
      c) 5.9
      d) 6.9
      e) None of these
      Answer – c) 5.9
      Explanation :
      25*15/100*2/5 = 1.5 (for company P) and 25*22/100*4/5 = 4.4 (for company R)
      so total = 5.9 cr

    2. Cost of production of item A by company U is what percent of the cost of production of item B by company S?
      a) 10%
      b) 15%
      c) 16.67%
      d) 33.33%
      e) None of these
Answer – e) None of these
      Explanation :
      For company U = 25*5/100*1/5 and for company S = 25*8/100*5/8
      % percent = [25*5/100*1/5]/ [25*8/100*5/8] = 1/5*100 = 20%

    3. What is the total profit earned by company W for items A and B together?
      a) 78 lakh
      b) 1.62 cr
      c) 7.8 lakh
      d) 68 lakh
      e) None of these
      Answer – a) 78 lakh
      Explanation :
For item A cost of production = 25*12/100*1/3 = 1 crore and for item B it is 2 crore.
      Now profit earned on A = 1*130/100 – 1 = 0.3 crore and profit earned on B = 2*124/100- 2 = 0.48 crore. Total profit = 0.3 + 0.48 = 0.78 crore or 78 lakh

    4. What is the ratio of the cost of production of item A by company P to the cost of production of item A by company S?
      a) 1:2
      b) 1:3
      c) 3:1
      d) 2:1
      e) None of these
      Answer – d) 2:1
      Explanation :
      ratio = 25*15/100*2/5 : 25*8/100*3/8 = 2:1

    5. What is the amount of profit earned by company S on item B? (approx.)
      a) 21 lakh
      b) 28 lakh
      c) 31 lakh
      d) 35 lakh
      e) None of these
      Answer – c) 31 lakh
      Explanation :
      (8/100)*25*(5/8) = 1.25 crore
      1.25*(125/100) = 1.56 crore, profit = 1.56 – 1.25 = 31 lakh

    6. What is the cost of production of item A by company P, Q and S together?
      a) 2.90cr
      b) 3.90cr
      c) 4.10cr
      d) 4.40cr
      e) None of these
      Answer – b) 3.90cr
      Explanation :
      25*(15/100*2/5 + 11/100*3/5 + 8/100*3/8) = 3.90cr
