QS World University Ranking 2020 by subject: US’s MIT topped, IIT Bombay & IIT Delhi ranked 44th & 47th in Engineering & Technology category

On March 5, 2020,According to the  Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2020 by Subject, Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Bombay and IIT Delhi have made it to the top 50 institutes in the world for the category of  engineering and technology (E&T) and ranked 44th and 47th respectively with a score of 81.9 and 81.4.
While, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge,US (Unites States) ranked at top position in the list of E&T category with a score of 98.1. In 2019, IIT Delhi was ranked 61st and IIT Bombay was 53rd.QS World University Ranking 2020Key Points:

i.About the ranking: QS ranked 1,368 academic institutions under 5 broad categories (Arts and Humanities, Engineering & Technology , Natural Science, Life Sciences and Medicine, Social Sciences and Management) across 48 subjects and 159 locations.

ii.No Indian institutes are get placed among 100 in the categories of Natural Science, Life Sciences and Medicine, Social Sciences and Management, Arts and Humanities categories.

iii.India has improved its overall collection in the list of top 100 list with over 26 Indian Higher Education Institutions making it to the list as against 21 institutions getting ranked in 2019.

iv.Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), which achieved 164th rank in Arts and Humanities in the 2019 QS Rankings, has improved its position by two places this time at 162nd . However, Delhi University has been ranked at 231 spot in this category.

v.The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has scored in 25 subjects and ranked in 3 in the QS World University Subject rankings for 2020. The three subjects in which UoH has won high rankings are: Chemistry 301-350; Biological Sciences 451-500; and Physics & Astronomy 501-550.

vi.Across all the subjects, QS considered 165 Indian institutions, 502 institutes from UK(United Kingdom), Germany & France combined, 441 institutes from the United States, and 360 from China, Japan, and South Korea combined for QS Rankings 2020 by subject.
