MCA introduced LLP settlement Scheme, 2020 to allow one-time condonation of delayed filing of required documents with ROCMCA launches LLP Settlement SchemeOn March 4, 2020, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has introduced a scheme namely “LLP Settlement Scheme, 2020” for limited liability partnership (LLPs) by allowing a one-time condonation of delay in filing statutorily required documents with the Registrar of Office (ROC). Simply, the scheme is providing a three-month window from 16th March, 2020 to 13th June, 2020 to LLPs for completing delayed filings of four forms which were due for filing till 31st October, 2019. SC allows trade in cryptocurrency by rejecting RBI 2018 circularSC allows trade in cryptocurrencyOn March 4, 2020, Supreme Court (SC) has lifted ban on trading in virtual currency, cryptocurrency and bitcoins by cancelling the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) 2018 circular that barred banks from serving companies dealing in cryptocurrency exchanges. The decision in this regard has been taken by the three-judge Bench headed by Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman and 2 other members are Justice Shripathi Ravindra Bhat, and Justice V Ramasubramanian.

70% reduction in insurgency incidents, 80% drop in civilian deaths & 78% decline in security forces casualties in 2019 as compared to 2013: Shri G Kishan Reddy
On March 4, 2020, According to the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri G Kishan Reddy there has been 70% decline in insurgency incidents, 80% drop in civilian deaths and 78% reduction in security forces casualties in the year 2019 in North East (NE) as compared to 2013.
Key Points:
i.A total of 1,824 surrenders by insurgents in the years between 2014 and 2019.
ii.After an agreement signed by the centre with National Liberation Front of Tripura (Sabir Debbarma) [NLFT-SD],the group surrendered its 88 cadres in August, 2019.
iii.Then, on 23 January, 2020 , a total of 644 cadres of different outfits surrendered and 1,615 cadres of different factions of National Democratic Front of Bodoland [NDFB] surrendered on 30 January, 2020 after signed a pact with different Bodo groups.

India & US signed Rs 1200 crore deal for missile protection suites for new Boeing-777 VVIP planes
On March 5, 2020 India signed Rs.1,200 crore deal with the United States to procure the missile protection suites for two new Boeing-777 VVIP(Very Very Important Person) planes during 2 day visit of US President Donald Trump to India.The missile protection suites will be code named as ‘Air Force One’ and it will be expected to arrive India in middle of 2021 to begin VVIP planes.
Key Points:-
i.Boeing-777 VVIP planes acquired for the purpose of President and Prime Minister’s Domestic and International visits.
ii.The features of self-protection suites includes infrared and electronic warfare countermeasures suites, countermeasure dispensing systems, and missile warning sensors.
iii.The aircraft will be operated by Indian Air Force pilots trained by Air India, which already maintained four Boeing 777 planes earlier.
iv.India and the United States also signed contracts for the Navy’s 24 MH60 Romeo Multirole helicopters and six new Apache attack choppers for the military.

RBI Deputy Governor N.S. Vishwanathan resigned ahead of retirementRBI deputy governor Vishwanathan retirement(write static GK)On March 5,2020, N.S Vishwanathan, one of the Reserve Bank of India’s deputy governors, who is due to retire on July 3,2020, has announced his resignation due to health problems.

He was first appointed as the Reserve Bank’s deputy governor for a three-year term in 2016, following which he was reappointed one year.

ii.He completed the Master of Economics from Bangalore University, joined RBI in 1981 and his areas of expertise include regulation and supervision of banks, currency management, foreign exchange,non-banking finance companies and cooperative banks and human resources management.

Tribal affairs ministry constitutes committee under NC Saxena on CFR guidelines under FRA
The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) has consituted a committee headed by Naresh Chandra Saxena, former member of the Planning Commission of India and of the National Advisory Council (NAC), to examine and recommend Community Forest Resources (CFR) Guidelines under the Forest Rights Act, 2006 (FRA).

  • In 2016, CFR guidelines were prepared by MoTA, in consultation with the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). However, the guidelines faced criticism from various tribal organisations for being too technical.
  • Apart from this committee, MoTA also created 2 committee headed by its former secretary Hrusikesh Panda.
  • One committees will look into the recognition and vesting process of habitat rights of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) and the second will submit a report on the seasonal resource access to nomadic and pastoralist communities.

Badminton Asia Championships 2020 shifted to Manila from Wuhan
On 4th March 2020, Badminton Asia confirmed that Badminton world federation (BWF) has shifted the Badminton Asia Championships 2020 to Manila, Philippines from Wuhan, China. It will be conducted in Manila from April 21 to 26, 2020.

  • The Badminton Asia Championship 2020 event is shifted due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and this championship falls within the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Qualification window.
  • The Philippine Badminton Association (PBA) successfully hosted the Asia Team Championships from Feb 11-16 2020, in Manila.

Mumbai to host 2023 International Olympic Committee (IOC) session 
On March 5, 2020 Mumbai will host the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session 2023 as recommended by IOC Executive Board and the decision will be approved at the 136th IOC session in Tokyo in July 2020. The IOC session was held in 1983 in New Delhi and the session is going to be held in India after 40 years.
Key Points:
i.The Evaluation Commission had visited Mumbai in October 2019 to study the feasibility of hosting the session & the board selected Mumbai due to the quality of the facilities at the Jio World Centre, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
ii.The year 2023 will be significant for India as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence.
iii.The event will encourage and support the National Olympic Committee of India and all the National Federations to promote & strengthen Olympics sports in the country.

OBITUARY

Former UN chief & PM of Peru, Javier Perez de Cuellar Passed away at 100
On March 4th 2020, former UN Chief & PM of Peru, Javier Perez de Cuellar passed away in his native Peru due to natural causes at the age of 100.
About Javier Perez de Cuellar:

  • Javier Perez de Cuellar was born on 19th January 1920 in Lima Peru. 
  • He was the president of the UN Security Council from 1973 to 1974 and Perez de Cuellar served as UN fifth secretary general from 1981 to 1991. He was often described as a “pacifist by vocation and nature.”
  • He served as the Prime Minister(PM) of Peru from November 22, 2000 – July 28, 2001.

Awards received by Javier Perez de Cuellar:

  • 1987 – Prince of Asturias Prize for the promotion of Ibero-American cooperation.
  • 1989 –  Olof Palme Prize for International Understanding and Common Security by the Olof Palme Memorial Fund and also Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding.

Janaushadhi Week 2020 being celebrated in India from March 1 to 7
Janaushadhi week is being celebrated throughout the country from 1st March to 7th March 2020. The main aim of the week is to provide various activities like health checkup Camp, free doctor consultation, free medicine distribution is hosted by Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
Key Points:

  • On the fourth day of the event for empowering women, the event was focused on the theme ‘Suvidha Se Sammaan’.
  • The “Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana” initiated by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government Of India to provide quality medicines at an affordable price.
  • Under this scheme free distribution of Suvidha Sanitary Napkins were hosted in many places. Around 50,000 Suvidha Sanitary Napkin packets have been distributed free of cost during the week.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel presents a Rs 95,650-crore budget for fiscal 2020-21Baghel presents budget for ChhattisgarhOn March 4, 2020, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister (CM)  Bhupesh Baghel has presented a budget of  Rs 95,650-crore in the state assembly for 2020-21.
As per the revised estimate of 2019-20, the subsidy burden of the state is Rs 10,836 crore, which is about 11 % of the total expenditure.It is also estimated to be around Rs 7,660 crore in 2019-20.

On March 5, 2020 Chief Minister (CM) of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat announced ‘Gairsain’ as the summer capital of the state, on the 3rd day of the budget session held in Gairsain, Uttarakhand.

i.The announcement fulfils the long-standing demand of hill people and the people who sacrificed themselves for the formation of Uttarakhand state.
ii.Those who spearheaded the movement for statehood to Uttarakhand in 1990 wanted Gaisain in Chamoli district to be made as permanent capital.
