NITI-Aayog’s-Atal-Innovation-Mission-launches-ATL-App-Development-Module-for-school-students-nationwideOn July 11, 2020, as a part of Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) initiative of Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog has launched pan India “ATL App Development Module”, a free online course for school students and teachers on the lines of the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat. Developed by NITI Aayog’s AIM and Indian startup, Plezmo, this course will comprise six project-based learning modules and online mentoring sessions.

  • The aim of this module is to transform school students from App users to innovative App Developers in various Indian languages, and with regard to school teachers, it will raise their awareness for App Development through periodic Teacher Training sessions.
  • This would be one of the largest App learning and development initiatives at a school level in any country.

#TinkerfromHome Campaign:

The hashtag or campaign for this state of the art platform is “#TinkerfromHome”, enabling Indian school students and teachers to learn and apply the latest technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Game Design and Development, 3D Design, Astronomy, Digital Creativity Skills, etc. from the comfort and safety of their homes amid COVID-19.

What is AIM?

It is Government of India’s flagship initiative to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. Its objective is to develop new programs and to create an umbrella structure to oversee the innovation ecosystem of the country.

What are ATLs?

Established under AIM in schools across India, its objective is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds. ATL is a work space of 1200-1500 square feet for school students from Class 6 to Class 12, allowing them to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). These labs are set up through grant-in-aid of Rs. 20 Lakh to each school by AIM.

  • Apart from ATL there are Atal Incubation Centres (AICs), Atal New India Challenge (ANIC), Mentor of Change Program, Atal Community Innovation Center, and Atal Research & Innovation for Small Enterprises (ARISE) (Coming Soon) under AIM foster innovation.
