30th April is designated as the International Jazz Day, in 2011 November by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) and it is celebrated annually to promote jazz and its role in uniting people from all around the world.This day is a culmination of Jazz Appreciation Month to get attention to Jazz and its heritage throughout April.Key Points:
i.The International Jazz Day is chaired by Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay and Herbie Hancock, Jazz pianist and composer and serving UNESCO Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue and Chairman of Herbie Hancock Institute of jazz.
ii.The community, schools, artists, historians, academics and jazz enthusiasts from all around the world are brought together to celebrate and learn jazz and its impacts to raise awareness.
iii.In the lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, The 9th International Jazz Day hosted by Herbie Hancock will take place online, the celebration will be streamed live on jazzday.com at 3 pm in the US Eastern time, instead of Cape Town, South Africa and other locations around the world as previously planned.
iv.The live stream will feature the performance of Marcus Miller, Lang Lang, Charlie Puth, Cecile McLorin Salvant, John McLaughlin, Dianne Reeves and Youn Sun Nah among others.
v.The virtual Global Concert is led by a series of free educational masterclasses, children’s activities and web conference discussion among the educators and jazz artists.
