UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Atul Khare as the Under-Secretary-General, Department of Field Support (DFS), which backs up the network of peacekeeping and political field missions. He will replace Ameerah Haq of Bangladesh.
Khare has been working with the United Nations for a very long period.
- He worked as the Assistant Secretary-General leading the Change Management Team.
- Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations.
- Deputy Head of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York.
He also served as the Deputy High Commissioner in Mauritius and the Director of the Nehru Centre in London.
Khare holds the under-graduate degree in medicine and surgery from the AIIMS and MBA from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.
