On November 12, 2019 the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev was observed. The day is also known as Prakash Parv/Guru Nanak Jayanti. He was the first of the 10 Sikh gurus and the founder of Sikhism. His birthday is observed every year on Kartik poornima. The celebration in detail are as follows,
i.Air India depicts ‘Ik Onkar’ on aircraft tail:
Recently New Delhi headquartered Air India depicted ‘Ik Onkar’, the religious Sikh symbol on one of its aircraft tail to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary.it was depicted on the Amritsar-Stansted,United Kingdom(UK) flight.
ii.President of India at Sultanpur Lodhi:
The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, attended the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of the Sikh guru and addressed the citizens at Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala, Punjab. Sultanpur Lodhi was the place where Guru Nanak attained enlightenment.
iii.Kartarpur corridor opening:
For the first time Indian Sikh devotees were let to pay obeisance at Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan through the Kartarpur corridor. The corridor was inaugurated by India and Pakistan on November 9, 2019.
About Guru Nanak Dev:
Birth- Nanak was born on 15 April 1469 in Punjab, Pakistan.
Death- 22 September 1539 in Kartarpur (Now in Pakistan).
Resting Place- Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, Pakistan.
Fact- He founded 3 pillars of Sikhism. They were Naam Japna, Kirat Karni, and Vand Chakna.
