World Unani Day is annually observed across the globe on 11th February to create and spread awareness about health care delivery through the Unani system of medicine. The day marks the birth anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan, a great Unani scholar and social reformer.
The first Unani day was celebrated in 2017 at Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine (CRIUM), Hyderabad.
Objective:
To spread awareness about health care delivery through the Unani system of medicine through its preventive and curative philosophy.
Events 2021:
i.the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine, Ministry of AYUSH has organised the National Conference on Unani Medicine at New Delhi in hybrid virtual mode.
ii.The conference is held under the theme “Unani Medicine: Opportunities and Challenges in times of COVID-19”.
iii.This event will provide a platform to discuss on the range of preventive and promotive issues related to COVID-19, which will help to develop the knowledge and understanding on the role of Unani System of Medicine during the COVID-19pandemic.
i.Hakim Ajmal Khan, was an Indian Unani physician who was the founder of scientific research in the Unani System of Medicine, freedom fighter and unani medicinal educationist.
ii.He was one of the founders of the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
History of Unani Medicine:
i.The Unani system of medicine originated in Greece and the foundation of the system was laid by Hippocrates.
ii.The present form of the Unani system of medicine belongs to the Arabs, who saved the greek literature and translated it into Arabs.
iii.The Arabs have enhanced the medicine of their day with their contribution.
Unani Medicine in India:
i.The practice of Unani medicine was introduced in India by the Arabs and Persians during the 11th century.
ii.Currently India is one of the leading countries in the practice of Unani medicine.
iii.India also has the largest number of Unani educational, research and healthcare institutions.
