World Thinking Day 2023World Thinking Day (WTD) is annually observed across the globe on February 22 by Girl Scouts and Girl Guides in the 152 member organisations across the world. The day aims to collect money for the 10 million girl scouts and guides in over 150 countries to honour sisterhood, solidarity, and women’s empowerment.

  • The day is annually observed and organised by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

World Thinking Day 2023 is observed on 22nd February 2023 under the theme “Our World, Our Peaceful Future: The environment, peace, and security”.

World Thinking Day Theme 2022-2024:

World Thinking Day theme from 2022-2024 will be ‘Our World, Our Future’.

  • 2022– Our World, Our Equal Future: The Environment and Gender Equality
  • 2023– Our World, Our Peaceful Future: The Environment, Peace, and Security
  • 2024– Our World Our Thriving Future: The Environment and Global Poverty.

Note: WTD 2022 started a 3-year journey for Girl Guides and Girls Scouts to become environmentally conscious leaders.

Background:

i. In 1926, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts delegates from across the world met in the United States of America (USA) for the 4th World Conference and declare February 22 of every year as Thinking Day, a special day for the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts across the globe.

ii. In 1999, at the 30th World Conference in Dublin, Ireland, delegates from across the globe decided to rename the day from Thinking Day to World Thinking Day.

Why February 22?

The day February 22 marks the birth anniversary of Lord Robert Baden Powell, the founder of the Boy Scout Movement and the 1st Chief Scout, and Olave Baden Powell, the World Chief Guide.

World Thinking Day Fund:

i. WTD fund was established in 1932 and will be used to help and support the poor and needy worldwide.

ii. The World Thinking Day Fund provides Member Organizations and girls with life-changing opportunities to transform their community and their World.

Additional Information:

On 19th February 2023, the local Girl Guiding Association hosted a World Thinking Day celebration, with hundreds of Bim Bims, Brownie Guides, Girl Guides, Ranger Guides, Young Leaders, and Guiders under the theme “Our World, Our Peaceful Future: The Environment and Peace.”

WAGGGS was formed at the 5th International Conference in Hungary in 1928. It is the world’s largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women.
