PM Narendra Modi Unveils Logo, Theme & Website of India’s G20 Presidency

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the logoAs a landmark move, India will assume the G20 (Group of Twenty) Presidency for a span of 1 year with effect from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023, and Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi revealed the logo, theme, and website for India’s G20 presidency.

  • India’s message to the world and overall priorities are reflected in the logo, theme, and website of its G20 Presidency.

The G20 summit 2022 will be held on November 15-16, 2022, in Bali, Indonesia.

  • Indonesia holds the G20 Presidency in 2022, which is chaired by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

The Group of Twenty (G20)  

i.The G20 is the leading forum for economic cooperation on a global scale.

  • It accounts for over two-thirds of the world’s population, over 75% of global trade, and about 85% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

ii.G20 Members: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom (UK), the United States (US) and the European Union (EU).

iii.India is currently a member of the G20 Troika, which consists of Indonesia, Italy, and India and represents the current, previous, and incoming G20 presidencies, respectively.

The G20 Logo  

i.The G20 logo features a lotus, the national flower of India, painted in the tricolour (saffron, white, & green) and blue, together with an image of the Earth.

ii.The Earth signifies India’s pro-planet concept of living in perfect harmony with nature, while the lotus flower signifies growth over obstacles.

iii.The word “Bharat” is written in Devanagari script under the G20 logo.

The G20 Theme

i.The theme for India’s G20 Presidency is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which refers to “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

  • It is taken from the Maha Upanishad, an ancient Sanskrit text.

ii.The theme mainly emphasizes the importance of all life—human, animal, plant, and microorganism—and its interdependence on Earth and in the bigger universe.

iii.The theme also highlights the LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment) movement and the associated environmentally sustainable and responsible choices.

G20 Website

i.The PM also unveiled the website for India’s G20 Presidency, www.g20.in.

ii.On December 1, 2022, the day India takes over the G20 Presidency, India’s G20 Presidency website, www.g20.in , will seamlessly migrate to the G20 Presidency website, www.g20.org.

G20 App

The “G20 India” mobile app has been made available on both the Android and iOS platforms in addition to the website.

Key Points:

i.India will host over 200 meetings in 32 different sectors throughout the term of its G20 Presidency, in various cities all over the country.

ii.The G20 Presidency also represents the onset of “Amritkaal,” the 25-year period beginning on August 15, 2022, the country’s 75th anniversary of independence.

i.The 14th World Spice Congress (WSC) will be held on February 16-18, 2023, at the CIDCO Exhibition and Convention Centre in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.

ii.The World Spices Board is hosting the WSC as a Group of Twenty (G20) event in conjunction with India’s G20 Presidency from December 2022 to November 2023.
