Overview of PM Narendra Modi Visit to Gujarat from May 26-27, 2025

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi was on a two-day visit to Gujarat from 26th to 27th May 2025 to inaugurate and lay the foundation for various development projects span across sectors such as Railways, Power, Urban Development and Housing.

Highlights of the Visit:

1.In Dahod:

On May 26, 2025, PM Narendra Modi Inaugurated Multiple Development Projects in Dahod, Gujarat:

i.PM Modi inaugurated and dedicated the new Locomotive Manufacturing Plant (LMP), established by the Indian Railways(IR) and flagged off the first 9,000-Horsepower (HP) Electric Locomotives for domestic purposes and export in the LMP facility in Dahod.

  • The plant is in collaboration with Munich (Germany) based Siemens, with an outlay of Rs.24,000 crore.
  • The state-of-the-art facility is expected to produce 1,200 high-powered electric locomotives within the next decade.
  • The facility can produce 120 locomotives annually, with the capability to increase output to 150 units per annum based on market requirements.
  • The locomotive engines produced at this facility will be capable of transporting 4,600 tonnes of freight.

ii.PM Modi virtually flagged off the Sabarmati (Ahmedabad)-Veraval Vande Bharat Express. The train will travel 438 miles in around 7 hours.

  • The semi-high-speed train is currently the fastest rail link between Ahmedabad(Gujarat) and the iconic Somnath Temple in Veraval(Gujarat), providing a faster and comfortable travel experience for the pilgrims and tourists.

iii.He also flagged off a new express train service between Valsad and Dahod, further enhancing rail connectivity in Gujarat.

iv.Subsequently, he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate a series of development initiatives in Dahod, amounting to around Rs.24,000 crore. These encompass several railway projects along with key schemes launched by the Government of Gujarat.

2.In Bhuj:

PM Narendra Modi laid foundation, inaugurated and dedicated multiple projects worth Rs.53,400 crores in Bhuj in the district of Kutch, Gujarat.

i.PM Modi announced, Khavda Renewable Energy Park (KREP) in Kutch district will have one of the world’s largest solar power plants, emphasizing the region’s pivotal role in India’s Renewable Energy (RE) ambitions.

ii.He laid the foundation stone of Green Energy Corridor Phase III (GEC-III), with an investment of Rs.29,000 crores. The project aims to transmit 16,500 MW of clean power across Gujarat.

iii.He also laid the foundation for the Ultra Super Critical Thermal Power Plant in Tapi with an aim to increase the power generation capacity in Gujarat.

iv.Multiple initiatives were launched to enhance the infrastructure and operational efficiency of Kandla Port (also known as Deendayal Port), one of the major ports in India.

v.PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for various road development projects, urban development projects, to improve transportation and quality of life for residents.

  • He flagged off the Sabarmati–Veraval Vande Bharat Express, cutting travel time between Ahmedabad and Somnath to seven hours, thereby boosting regional connectivity and promoting religious tourism.

In Gandhinagar:

On 27 May 2025, PM Narendra Modi participated in events and Inaugurated, laid foundation of various projects in Gandhinagar, Gujarat:

i.PM Modi attended the 20-year celebration of Gujarat’s Urban Growth Story in Gandhinagar.

  • PM addressed the event, emphasized the infrastructural development in Gujarat, including the Sabarmati Riverfront, Gujarat; India’s first International Financial Services Centre(IFSC), in Gandhinagar, Gujarat; and the Statue of Unity, Kevadia (Gujarat), positioning the state as a hub for tourism and trade.

ii.He launched Urban Development Year 2025, marking 20 years since the inception of Urban Development Year 2005, a milestone celebrating Gujarat’s two-decade journey of urban transformation.

  • Urban Development Year 2025 outlines the road map for Gujarat for the next phase of urban expansion including Affordable Housing, Sustainable Mobility, Water Management, Clean Air initiatives, Digital Governance.

iii.He also inaugurated 22,000 housing units under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and allocated Rs.3,300 crore to urban local bodies through the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMMSVY), Government of Gujarat.

iv.He also inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple projects worth Rs.5,536 crore, related to urban development, health, and water supply.
