The International Kite Festival is as one of the biggest festivals celebrated in the state of Gujarat. The festival is organized by state government and tourism department of the state. The festival is celebrated in many cities of Gujarat like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Nadiad.
This festival is called Uttarayan and it marks the day when Summer begins. This day is considered as a sign to farmers that the harvest season is approaching which is known as Makar Sankaranthi. This day is considered as the most important harvest day in India and the day has different names in different states.
For this year, 22 Kite fliers from different parts of the world and states of India are participating in Uttarayan to be held at Tapi River front in the city.
