  1. The electricity bill is partly fixed and partly varies as number of units consumed. The bill is Rs 1800 when 540 units are consumed and it is Rs 2040 when 620 units are consumed. What will be the bill of the month in which 500 units of electricity are consumed?
    A) Rs 1200
    B) Rs 1620
    C) Rs 1280
    D) Rs 1550
    E) Rs 1680
    E) Rs 1680
    Explanation:

Let fixed charges = Rs x and charges of 1 unit consumed = Rs y
    Then
    1800 = x + 540y
    And 2040 = x + 620y
Solve both equations and find value of x and y and put in following equation to find answer.
    Bill = x + 500y

  2. Water pipes A, B, and C can fill a tank in 30 minutes, 20 minutes and 10 minutes respectively. All the three pipes were opened. What is the proportion of water supplied by pipe C in the total amount of water in tank after 3 minutes?
    A) 5/11
    B) 6/11
    C) 7/11
    D) 8/11
    E) 9/11
    B) 6/11
    Explanation:

    Amount of water filled in 3 minutes = [(1/30) + (1/20) + (1/10)] * 3 = 11/20.
    Amount of water filled by pipe C in 3 minutes = (1/10)*3 = 3/10
So part of water by pipe C is (3/10) / (11/20)

  3. A work which can be completed by 12 men in 4 days, can be completed by 15 women in 4 days. 6 men start the work and after working for 2 days they are replaced by some women who complete the remaining work in 3 days. What is the number of women that replaced the initially employed 6 men?
    A) 20
    B) 22
    C) 15
    D) 18
    E) Cannot be determined
    C) 15
    Explanation:

    12 m in 4 days do 1 work so 6 men in 2 days do 6*2/12*4 = 1/4th of work
Now 1 – (1/4) = 3/4 of work is remaining that is to be done by x women
15 w do 1 work in 4 days, so x women will do 3/4 work in 3 days
    15*4*(3/4) = x*3*1

  4. A, B, and C started a business in which they invested Rs 1200, Rs 3600 and Rs 6000 respectively. After 4 months, A invested the same amount as before and B and C both withdrew their half capitals. Find the ratio of the share of their profits at the end of year.
    A) 6 : 5 : 10
    B) 5 : 6 : 10
    C) 5 : 8 : 10
    D) 4 : 9 : 10
    E) 3 : 6 : 10
    B) 5 : 6 : 10
    Explanation:

    Required ratio =
    1200*4 + 2400*8 : 3600*4 + 1800*8 : 6000*4 +3000*8

  5. Two men are walking at the rate of 4.5 km/hr and 5.4 km/hr respectively. Both are walking in the direction of a train which takes 8.4 and 8.5 seconds respectively to overtake them. What is the speed of train?
    A) 78 km/hr
    B) 61 km/hr
    C) 60 km/hr
    D) 81 km/hr
    E) 84 km/hr
    D) 81 km/hr
    Explanation:

    4.5 km/hr = 4.5*(5/18) = 1.25 m/sec, 5.4 km/hr = 5.4*(5/18) = 1.5 m/sec
Let speed of tain is x m/sec
    Then (x-1.25)*8.4 = (x-1.5)*8.5
    Solve, x = 22.5 = 22.5*(18/5) = 81 km/hr

  6. It takes 19 hours for a boat to travel downstream from point A to point B and coming back to a point C in between A and B. Speed of boat in still water is 14 km/hr and velocity of stream is 4 km/hr. What is the distance between A and B?
    A) 150 km
    B) 180 km
    C) 165 km
    D) 172 km
    E) 160 km
    B) 180 km
    Explanation:

Let distance A to B is x km, then distance BC = (x/2) km
    downstream speed = 14+4 = 18
    and upstream speed = 14-4 = 10
    distance/speed = time
    Then (x/18) + [(x/2)/10] = 19
    Solve, x = 180

  7. A jar contains 40% water and rest milk. A part of the mixture is replaced by another containing 19% water and now the percentage of water in the new mixture is 26%. Find the part of solution being replaced.
    A) 3/4
    B) 1/4
    C) 1/3
    D) 2/3
    E) 2/5
    D) 2/3
    Explanation:

    By method of allegation:
    40%              19%
    .         26%
    7                      14
    1 : 2
    So solution replaced = 2/(1+2)

  8. A certain amount is invested in 3 schemes A, B and C at 10% p.a., 12% p.a. and 15% p.a. respectively. Total interest obtained after 1 year is Rs 3200. If the amount invested in scheme C was 240% of amount invested in scheme B and 150% of amount invested in scheme A, then find the amount invested in scheme B.
    A) Rs 4500
    B) Rs 4050
    C) Rs 5000
    D) Rs 5500
    E) Rs 6000
    C) Rs 5000
    Explanation:

Let amounts invested be x, y, z respectively.
    Then z = 240% of y = 12y/5
    Also z = 150% of x = 3y/2
    And
    [(x*10*1)/100] + [(y*12*1)/100] + [(z*15*1)/100] = 3200
Solve all the 3 equation to find y

  9. A sum of money lent for 2 years yields Rs 660 as simple interest and Rs 696.30 as compound interest when invested at same rates of interest. What is the rate percent at which the sum was invested?
    A) 11.2%
    B) 12.5%
    C) 10%
    D) 11%
    E) 9.5%
    D) 11%
    Explanation:

    SI for 1 year = 660/2 = Rs 330
    Difference between Si and CI = 696.30 – 660 = 36.30
So SI on Rs 330 for 1 year = 36.30
    So
    36.30 = (330*r*1)/100
    Solve, r = 11%

  10. Radius and height of a closed cylindrical box is 35 cm and 1.25 m. Find the cost of material used in the box if sheet costs Rs 90 per m2.
    A) Rs 320
    B) Rs 312.2
    C) Rs 316.8
    D) Rs 216.8
    E) Rs 334.5
    C) Rs 316.8
    Explanation:

    TSA of cylinder = 2ᴨr(h+r) = 3.52 m2
    Then cost of material = 3.52* 90
