On September 20, 2019 the union Minister of Home Affairs (MHA) shriAmit Shah launched 3 citizen centric services of chandigarh police at the 29th meeting of the Northern Zonal Council in chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Haryana. The three services are ‘E-Beat Book’ System, ‘E-Saathi App’ and Emergency Response Support System (ERSS – Dial 112).Key points
i. ERSS-Dial 112: This system is mainly used for the purpose of reducing crime, especially against women. The ERSS which is one of the key projects of the home minister and the Nirbhaya fund is provided with a single emergency number 112 with computer aided dispatch of resources to the location of the user. This no. would enhance community policing and a user can send his/her emergency information through call, mail, SMS(short message Service) and also through the 112 India mobile app.
- Emergency numbers like 1073 for road accidents, 1091, 181 for women helpline and other helpline services would be added under the ERSS-Dial 112 soon.
ii. ‘E-Beat Book’: It is a web and mobile based app that provides information about crime and criminals in real time. This E-beat book system would be linked with Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS), for real time updation of crime oriented data. Citizens can approach the ‘Atal Sehbhagita Kendra’(Atal participation centre) which is available in all 54 divisions of Chandigarh under a beat officer(patrolling police officer involved in community policing) for redressal of grievances.
iii. ‘E-Saathi’: The E-Saathi app would help the citizens to keep in touch with the police and also would help in facilitating community policing which is a ‘your police at your doorstep initiative’. In a single click through this app, services such as passport verification, servant verification, character verification etc would be done by the beat officer at citizens’ houses directly.
