1. Diminish – decreasing, कमी

Meaning – make or become less

Usage – “the new law is expected to diminish the government’s chances”

Synonyms – belittle, disparage, denigrate, deprecate, depreciate, devalue, demean, decry, cast aspersions on, speak ill of, speak badly of, run down, abuse, insult, revile, malign, vilify; slur; informalbad-mouth, pull to pieces etc.

2. Whimsy – fanciful idea, सनक

Meaning – playfully quaint or fanciful behaviour or humour.

Usage – “the film is an awkward blend of whimsy and moralizing”

3. Discernment – recognize, जानना

Meaning – the ability to judge well.

Usage – “an astonishing lack of discernment”

Synonyms – judgement, taste, discrimination, refinement, cultivation, sophistication, enlightenment, sensitivity, subtlety; insight, perceptiveness, perception, perspicacity etc.

4. Prudent – wise, बुद्धिमान

Meaning – acting with or showing care and thought for the future.

Usage – “no prudent money manager would authorize a loan without first knowing its purpose”

Synonyms – wise, well judged, judicious, sagacious, sage, shrewd, advisable, well advised, politic, sensible etc.

5. Thwart – unsuccessful, व्यर्थ

Meaning – prevent (someone) from accomplishing something.

Usage – “he never did anything to thwart his father”

6. Impunity – free from punishment, दण्डमुक्ति

Meaning – exemption from punishment or freedom from the injurious consequences of an action.

Usage – “the impunity enjoyed by military officers implicated in civilian killings”

synonyms – immunity, indemnity, exemption from punishment, freedom from punishment, exemption, non-liability, licence; amnesty, dispensation, pardon, reprieve, stay of execution, exoneration; privilege, special treatment, favouritism etc.

7. Imminent – close in time, आसन्न

Meaning – about to happen.

Usage – “they were in imminent danger of being swept away”

Synonyms – impending, at hand, close, near, approaching, fast approaching, coming, forthcoming, on the way, about to happen, upon us, in store, in the offing, in the pipeline, on the horizon, in the air, in the wind, brewing, looming, looming large etc.

8. Fortified – strong, मजबूत

Meaning – provide (a place) with defensive works as protection against attack.

Usage – “the whole town was heavily fortified”

Synonyms – build defences round, strengthen with defensive works, secure, protect, surround; rareembattle, rampart, mound etc.

9. Brazen – face with shameless, बेशर्मी

Meaning – bold and without shame.

Usage – “he went about his illegal business with a brazen assurance”

Synonyms – bold, shameless, as bold as brass, brazen-faced, forward, presumptuous, brash, immodest, unashamed, unabashed, unembarrassed, unblushing; defiant, impudent, insolent, impertinent, cheeky, pert; barefaced etc.

10. Gospel truth – an unquestionable truth, पूर्ण सत्य

Meaning – the teaching or revelation of Christ.

Usage – “it is the Church’s mission to preach the gospel”
