With greater power comes greater responsibility

“With greater power comes greater responsibility” has been rightly coined by Voltaire Greater which states that more power more will be the responsibilities as the expectations will also be more. Power is essential, without power one cannot lead a very good life but at the same time one must also realise that once power is acquired, responsibility is automatically embraced. One must be completely honest and practical towards one’s responsibilities.

In our quest to gain power we all tend to overlook the responsibilities accompanied with the power, in fact they hardly comes to our mind when we think of power. There is no fixed definition for power as it has different meaning for different individuals but the fact remains they wield influence over people by virtue of power, and hence the reason it lures us.A power or authority, responsibly exercised, is always respected and upheld. whereas, power, that is arbitrary and autocratic, is bound to be overthrown, either through revolution or by reform.

We should have the will power and take up risks so that we can become more powerful and responsible. As we climb up the ladder, people expect more from us and hence our duties and responsibilities will also tend to increase. Some people may take up a higher position, but if they do not meet the expectations they are doomed to come down. When you are in power people monitor each and every move which you make, hence the responsibility to succeed and meet the people’s expectation is also more. We all know the principle of proportionality, and we must know that power howsoever small or big comes with proportional responsibility as these two are complementary to each other.

People in power should have a purpose and they should not misuse their power for anything. But now-a-days the scenario is changed. For example , majority of politicians are misusing their power for satisfying their own personal greeds. They are not looking after the interests/ wellness of the people and hence they are not in the good books of people. And hence people are losing interest in any government which is coming to power these days. The power or authority when responsibly executed is always respected and upheld and our politicians should carry out their responsibilities correctly in order to earn the respect of people.

It is the lack of awareness or our tendency to look responsibility and power separately has created many problems by disturbing the order of society. Today the person in whom power is vested tends to enjoy all the power wielded in him but is not ready to accept the responsibility that comes with it. It is evident phenomena that no one comes to take responsibility of any wrongdoing everybody tries to play a blame game especially in politics.

As going by the saying “with great power comes great responsibility” we must prepare ourselves for the responsibilities that would befall upon us in our quest to gain power. We should try to harmonize both these attributes accordingly which in turn will lead to a better world.
