The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Telangana and Maharashtra government on river Godavari Water Projects in Mumbai.
- The MoU will pave the way for construction of five Barrages on Godavari River and its tributaries Penganga and Pranahita projects which has kept aside due inter-state disputes.
- Maharashtra Chief Minister Davendra Fadnavis and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao signed five MoUs which will include both the Ongoing and new projects.
- A meeting between the officials of the two states would decide the height, Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of the barrage it would in the vicinity of 100 meters.
- As Part of the MoU the construction of Medigadda barrage 20Km Downstrem of Kaleshwaram in Warangal District, as part of the kaleshwaram Project a component of the redesigned Pranahita-Chevella Project.
- The Barrage would enable irrigation of 16.4 lakh acres in Telangana and over 50, 000 acres in Maharashtra with the help of four small lift irrigation schemes.
Godavari River:
- The Godavari River is the second longest river in India after the river Gangeshaving its source at Tryambakeshwar, Maharashtra.
- The river flows from west to east with the length of 1465 Km.
- Telangana is using the river water after Maharashtra and from Telangana, the river flows into Andhra Pradesh before joining Bay of Bengal.
