Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav Releases ‘MEE Report 2020–25 for 438 Protected Areas’; Kerala and Chandigarh TopKerala ranked best state in management effectiveness evaluation of national parks and protected areas across IndiaIn June 2025, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), unveiled the Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) report covering 438 National Parks (NPs) and Wildlife Sanctuaries (WLS) in India. The report, prepared by MoEFCC, was launched during the Indian Conservation Conference (ICCON) 2025 held at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

  • Kerala secured the highest position among all states, achieving a score of 76.22%, becoming the only state rated “Very Good.”

i.Chandigarh topped among the Union Territories (UTs) with a score of 85.16%, while Ladakh, with a score of 34.9%, was the only region classified as “Poor.”
ii.Among 438 PAs assessed, 84 were rated “Very Good,” 214 received a “Good” rating, 122 were classified as “Fair,” and 18 were marked as “Poor.”
iii.Among the individual PAs, Eravikulam NP (Kerala) and Dachigam NP (Jammu & Kashmir, J&K) achieved the highest score of 92.97% each.

Teghbir Singh Becomes World’s Youngest to Climb Summit of Mount Elbrus6 yr-old Punjabi boy, becomes youngest in world to scale Europe’s highest mountain peakIn June 2025, Teghbir Singh, at the age of 6 years and 9 months, has become the youngest ever in the world to climb the Mount (Mt) Elbrus, highest peak of European Continent, located in Russia at a height of more than 18, 510 feet (ft) (5,642 metres, m).

  • He received the Mountain Climbing Certificate issued by the Mountaineering, Rock Climbing and Sports Tourism Federation of Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (Russia).

Key Points:
i.It is a low-Oxygen trek, and the trekker needs preparation to tackle problems associated with Altitude Sickness.
ii.Teghbir Singh started the trek to the Mt.Elbrus on June 20, 2025, and walked all along to reach the Elbrus peak, the highest point of the mountain, where normal temperature is -10 degree (°) Celsius on June 28, 2025.
iii.He set a new world record by surpassing the previous mark held by Wagah Kushagra from Maharashtra, who achieved it in 2024 at the age of 7 years and 3 months.

MYAS and DIC Sign MoU to Develop MY Bharat 2.0 PlatformOn June 30, 2025, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with New Delhi (Delhi)-based Digital India Corporation (DIC) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), to develop and upgrade the MY Bharat platform to MY Bharat 2.0.

  • The upgrade aims to enhance user experience, accessibility, and technological features, supporting the Government of India(GoI)’s vision to transform India’s demographic advantage into a developmental dividend.

Key People:
The signing ceremony occurred in the presence of Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, MYAS, Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoL&E); Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, MeitY, Ministry of Railways (MoR) and Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB); and among others.
About MY Bharat Platform:
i.MY Bharat is a dynamic digital platform designed by the Department of Youth Affairs (DoYA) under MYAS and developed by the DIC.
ii.Launched on 31 October 2023, the platform provides an institutional framework to engage and mobilize India’s youth in a structured and impactful manner.
iii.As of June 2025, over 1.76 crore youth and more than 1.19 lakh organizations have registered on the platform.
Key Features of MY Bharat 2.0:
The enhanced MY Bharat 2.0 platform will include several advanced features:
i.Modular architecture to ensure scalability and flexibility
ii.Fully functional mobile applications for both Android and iPhone Operating System (iOS) users
iii.Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven features, including a Smart Curriculum Vitae (CV) Builder, personalized Digital Profiles, AI-powered chatbots, speech-to-text capabilities, WhatsApp integration, and voice-assisted navigation.
iv.Integrated dashboards for institutions to monitor outcomes and geo-tagging tools for location-based opportunity discovery.
v.Interactive learning modules and quizzes to foster engagement.
Integration and Security:
i.MY Bharat 2.0 will integrate seamlessly with national digital platforms like Aadhaar, DigiLocker, Bhashini, and MyGov.
ii.The upgraded version includes dedicated sections for National Career Services, a Mentorship Hub, and a Fit India segment.

Govt Begins Nation Wide Testing of Real-Time Disaster Alert System via Mobile Phones
In June 2025, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications (MoC), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India(GoI) started nationwide testing of a new indigenous Cell Broadcast (CB) disaster alert system to provide timely information to citizens.

  • The CB System, developed by Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), enables instant alerts to all mobile phones in a specific area, unlike individual SMS alerts.

i.The alert system, CB technology, is being tested as part of the government’s broader initiative to enhance real-time dissemination of critical alerts during emergencies such as earthquakes, tsunamis, lightning strikes, and industrial hazards.
ii.The system uses the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), recommended by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and supports alerts in multiple Indian languages, including English and Hindi.
iii.In the CB system, the alerts are sent to mobile phones in the affected area in broadcast mode and hence the dissemination of alerts happens in real time.
iv.The CB System complements the existing SMS-based SACHET portal, This system is already operational in all 36 States and Union Territories (UTs) of India. Which has sent over 6,899 crore alerts in 19 Indian languages during past disasters.

Adani Green Energy Surpasses 15,000 MW Renewable Capacity
In June 2025, Ahmedabad (Gujarat) based Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), through its subsidiaries, has commissioned 1,011.5 megawatts (MW) of power projects in Khavda, Gujarat, pushing its total operational capacity beyond the 15,000 MW mark to reach 15,539.9 MW. The milestone coincides with AGEL’s 10-year anniversary in India’s RE space.

  • With this AGEL, became the first Indian company in the Renewable Energy(RE) sector to cross 15,000 MW or 15 gigawatts (GW) of installed operational capacity.

i.The Khavda power projects mark the fastest and largest addition of renewable energy capacity in India’s green energy sector.
ii.AGEL portfolio includes 11,005.5 MW of solar energy, 1,977.8 MW of wind energy, and 2,556.6 MW from hybrid wind-solar projects.
iii.This milestone allows AGEL to supply clean energy to about 7.9 million households and offset 28.6 million tonnes(MT) of carbon emissions every year, equal to taking 6.3 million cars off the roads or matching the carbon absorption of nearly 1.36 billion trees.
iv.The company plans to fast-track its expansion, aiming to scale up its capacity from 15,000 MW to 50,000 MW by 2030.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

Global Unicorn Index 2025 : USA Topped; India Ranked 3rd with 67 UnicornsIn June 2025, Shanghai(China) based Hurun Research Institute released the 7th edition of “Global Unicorn Index ” report, in which India secured the 3rd rank globally with a total of 64 unicorns.

  • The United States of America (USA) continued to be in the top position with 758 unicorns, accounting for 49.8% of the world total number of unicorns. It was followed by China in the index with 343 unicorns.

Key Highlights:
i.The index listed a total of 1523 unicorns (up by 5% compared to 2024) in the world, based in 52 countries. The total value of the world’s unicorns reached USD 5.6 trillion (tn), up by 22%.
ii.As per the index, a total of 203 unicorns were minted newly last year, averaging one every two days.

  • The USA led the count with 108 new unicorns, followed by China with 36, and the rest of the world contributing 59.

iii.SpaceX(USA), with a valuation of USD 350bn has become the most valuable company in the world, overtaking ByteDance(China).

  • It is for the 1st time a space exploration company has led the index.

iv.The Tiger global(USA) management retains the crown of ‘world’s most successful unicorn investor’ followed by Softbank(Japan), and Sequoia capital(USA) ranking third.
Unicorn Capital:
i.San Francisco retained the title of “World’s Unicorn Capital” with 199 unicorns (Up 9), followed by New York (USA) with 142 (up 9), and Beijing(China) with 75 (down 3).
ii.With respect to India, Bengaluru (Karnataka) at 7th rank leads the index among the Indian cities, followed by Mumbai (Maharashtra) at 22nd and Gurugram (Haryana) entered the list for the first time at 27th position.

Global Satellite Deployment 2025: USA Leads with 8,530, India Ranks 7th with 136According to the latest data from the satellite tracking website Orbiting Now, as of 29 June 2025, there are approximately 12,952 active objects orbiting Earth. Of these, 145 satellites were launched during the year 2025 alone.

  • Satellites are typically deployed in orbits around Earth, including the Geostationary Orbit (GEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), and Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

i.The USA: According to Statista.com data, the United States of America (USA) with 8,530 satellites in orbit (as of November 2024), emerged as the country with the highest number of satellites across the world.
ii.Russia: As per data available on n2yo.com, Russia accounts for 1,559 satellites in Earth’s orbit, which makes it world’s 2nd country with most satellites in space. Currently, Russia’s in-orbit constellation consists of 244 satellites.
iii.India: According to Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)’s data, Indian accounts about 136 satellites including those from private operators or academic institutions, that have been launched in Earth’s orbit (as of December 31, 2024).

2025 Bonn Climate Change Conference held from June 16 to 26, 2025 in GermanyThe 62nd Sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) i.e. (SB62) or also known as 2025 Bonn Climate Change Conference was held from June 16 to 26, 2025 at the World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB) in Bonn, Germany.

  • This 11-day long conference brought together over 5,000 government delegates and stakeholders to discuss a wide range of issues such as the mobilization of finance to tackle climate change.
  • It served as a key preparatory platform for 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC(COP30), set to be held in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025.

Highlights:
i.During the conference, discussions were held on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), aims to identify a common goal on adaption, just like limiting surface temperature below 1.5 degree celsius(°C), which is a global goal on mitigating GreenHouse Gas(GHG) emissions.
ii.Backed by robust interventions led by India, coalitions such as Group 77 (G-77), coalition of 134 countries and China; the Like-Minded Developing Countries (LMDC), Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and the African Group of Negotiators (AGN) unequivocally raised the issue of climate finance accountability.

  • All these developing countries are demanding the inclusion of Article 9.1 of the Paris Agreement as a formal agenda item.

Suriname Becomes First Amazon Nation to Earn WHO Malaria-Free CertificationOn June 30, 2025, Suriname, a country in South America, has become the first country in the Amazon region to be certified malaria-free by the Geneva (Switzerland) based World Health Organization (WHO). This historic milestone follows nearly 70 years of commitment by the Suriname government and its people to eliminate the disease across its vast rainforests and diverse communities.

  • Including Suriname, 46 countries and 1 territory have been certified as malaria-free by WHO to date.

Malaria-Free Certification:
i.Certification of Malaria elimination is granted by WHO when a country has proven, beyond reasonable doubt, that the chain of indigenous transmission has been interrupted nationwide for at least the previous three consecutive years.
ii.The final decision on awarding a malaria-free certification is made by the WHO Director-General, based on a recommendation by the Technical Advisory Group on Malaria Elimination and Certification (TAG-MEC) and validation from the Malaria Policy Advisory Group (MPAG).
Malaria Disease:
i.Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, which are transmitted to humans through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.
ii.Malaria is caused by five species of the Plasmodium parasite, including Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium knowlesi.
iii.Malaria commonly affects tropical and subtropical regions, including Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands.
Malaria Elimination in Suriname:
i.In the 1950s, Suriname started malaria control in coastal areas by spraying pesticides indoors. By the 1960s, these areas were malaria-free.
ii.Since 2005, with help from the Geneva (Switzerland)-based Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, the country improved malaria diagnosis capacity.
iii.By 2006, malaria cases had greatly decreased among indigenous people.
iv.To reach high-risk, mobile populations in remote areas, the government created a network of Malaria Service Deliverers.

  • These trained community workers offered free malaria testing, treatment, and prevention in hard-to-reach places.

v.Suriname reported its last local Plasmodium falciparum case in 2018 and Plasmodium vivax case in 2021.

Slice Launches UPI Credit Card, Opens India’s First UPI-Powered Bank Branch
In June 2025, Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Slice (Garagepreneurs Internet Private Limited), a leading fintech company, launched the Slice Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Credit Card and opened India’s first UPI powered bank branch in Koramangala, Bengaluru(Karnataka).

  • This initiative, following Slice’s merger with Guwahati (Assam) based North East Small Finance Bank (NESFB) in October 2024, aims to transform credit access and banking services in India.

i.The newly launched Slice UPI Credit Card is a RuPay-based card with zero joining and annual fees. It offers up to 3 percent cashback on all spending and allows customers to split any transaction into three interest-free monthly instalments through the ‘Slice in 3’ feature.
ii.The new branch and its ATM allow all key banking services via UPI, including digital onboarding, cardless cash withdrawals, and deposits. The model aims to make banking more convenient by combining UPI with branch banking for the first time in India.

ECONOMY & BUSINESS

RBI Data: Over 72% Growth in India’s Overseas Financial Assets Driven by Investment, Currency & Deposits, and Reserve AssetsIn June 2025, Mumbai (Maharashtra) based Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released India’s International Investment Position (IIP) data. As per the data, over 72% of the total growth in India’s foreign financial assets during the Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25) was mainly driven by higher overseas direct investments, currency & deposits, and reserve assets.

  • The data further revealed that reserve assets alone accounted for over 54% increase in Indian residents’ overseas financial assets; followed by currency & deposits and direct investments.

Key Findings:
i.The data showed that the net claims of non-residents decreased by USD 31.2 billion during FY25. This decrease was mainly attributed by the higher increase in India’s external financial assets (USD 105.4 billion) than external financial liabilities (USD 74.2 billion).
ii.As per the data, net claims of non-residents on India declined by USD 34.2 billion during the 4th Quarter (Q4: January-March) of FY25 and stood at USD 330 billion by March 31, 2025.

  • This decline was mainly driven by higher increase in Indian residents’ overseas financial assets (USD 60 billion) that the increase in foreign-owned assets in India (USD 25.8 billion) in Q4FY25.

iii.The data highlighted that the ratio of India’s international financial assets to international financial liabilities improved from 74.1% to 77.5% (in March 2025), indicating a stronger external financial position for the country.
iv.The data further showed that increase in loans (USD 10 billion) and inward direct investment (USD 9.7 billion) together accounted for over 3/4th (75%) of the increase in foreign liabilities of Indian residents during Q4FY25.

  • While, reserve assets accounted for 58.7% of India’s international financial assets during Q4FY25.

v.The data showed that the ratio of net claims of non-residents on India to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) improved from -10.1% (FY24) to -8.7% (FY25).
Note: Net Claims of Non-Residents on India refers to the difference between the total financial assets (claims) and the total financial liabilities (obligations) held by Non-Residents in India.

Jumbotail becomes 5th Unicorn in 2025 with USD 120 Million Funding RoundIn June 2025, Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Jumbotail Technologies Private Limited, India’s leading Business-to-Business (B2B) e-commerce and retail platform for food and grocery, has raised USD 120 million (approximately Rs 1,028 crore)in a Series D Funding round led by SC Ventures, the innovation and investment arm of United Kingdom(UK) based Standard Chartered Plc.

  • The funding round also saw participation from existing investor Singapore based Artal Asia, bringing the company total funding to USD 263 million.
  • With this, Jumbotail became the 5th Indian startup to achieve unicorn status in 2025, after Netradyne, Juspay, Porter and Drools Pet Food Private Limited.

Note: A unicorn is a term used to describe privately owned startups or companies whose valuation is more than USD 1 billion.
Key Points:
i.The newly raised capital will be used to scale Jumbotail’s Artificial Intelligence (AI)-native solutions and capabilities.

  • The funds will also support talent acquisition across various verticals including product management, AI or Machine Language, supply chain, and marketing.

ii.Apart from fund raising, Jumbotail has also completed the acquisition of Solv India, a B2B commerce and financial services platform incubated by SC Ventures.

  • The deal has received the approval from New Delhi (Delhi) based Competition Commission of India (CCI).
  • Both Jumbotail and Solv India now claim to serve more than 5 lakh kiranas and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across over 400 cities and towns in India.

In June 2025, Bengaluru (Karnataka) based SatSure Analytics Private Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hyderabad (Telangana) based Dhruva Space Private Limited to deliver end-to-end Earth Observation-as-a-Service (EOaaS) solutions.

  • The partnership will deliver end-to-end EOaaS solutions, covering satellite development, launch services, ground infrastructure, and customised data analytics for industries.

i.The partnership brings together SatSure’s strengths in data and analytics with Dhruva Space’s expertise in satellite platforms and system integration.

  • It builds on KaleidEO’s recent qualification of sub-metre optical and multispectral payloads, and Dhruva Space’s investment in the country’s largest private satellite integration and testing facility.

ii.This collaboration aims to deliver a fully homegrown solution, from payload development to platform deployment, offering quicker, more affordable access to high-quality Earth Observation data for users across various sectors.
Note: Dhruva Space is setting up a 280,000 square-feet (sq ft) spacecraft manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, equipped to handle the design, assembly, integration, and testing of spacecraft up to 500 kilograms(kg). It will be the first facility of its kind in India.

APPOINTMENTS & RESIGNATIONS

ACC Appointed Parag Jain as New Chief of R&AWIn June 2025, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of Parag Jain, a 1989 batch senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Punjab cadre, as the new Secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), the external intelligence agency of India.

  • He will succeed the current R&AW Chief, Ravi Sinha, who is set to retire on 30th June 2025.
  • Jain will assume charge on 1st July 2025 for a fixed tenure of two years.

ACC Extends CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal’s Tenure till June 2026:
In June 2025, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the re-appointment of Ravi Agrawal, a 1988-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) (Income Tax cadre), as the Chairman of the New Delhi (Delhi) based Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Department of Revenue (DOR), under the Ministry of Finance (MoF), effective from 1st July 2025 to 30th June 2026.

  • In June 2024, Agrawal took charge as CBDT Chairman, succeeding Nitin Gupta, a 1986-batch IRS officer.

DRDO Unveils India’s First Indigenous Photonic Radar for Advanced Stealth DetectionOn June 30, 2025, New Delhi (Delhi) based Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Ministry of Defence (MoD), has developed India’s first indigenous Photonic Radar, marking a significant milestone in India’s air defence technology, with ultra-high resolution, stealth detection, and immunity to electronic jamming.

  • The radar is expected to undergo extensive trials to validate its performance.
  • The radar system has been designed by the Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), a laboratory of the DRDO, with contributions from private partners under the Technology Development Fund (TDF).

Photonic Radar:
i.Photonic radar replaces traditional microwave Radio Frequency (RF) systems by using light-based technologies, such as lasers and optical fibres, to generate, transmit, and process signals across millimeter-wave to terahertz (THz) frequency ranges, reaching up to 34 Gigahertz (GHz) with an 11 GHz bandwidth.
ii.It usesPhotonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) to achieve ultra-high-resolution imaging down to 1.3 centimeter (cm), allowing it to detect objects as small as 3×4 cm, including stealth aircraft, drones, and rotating drone blades.
iii.Key features include energy-efficient operation, low heat generation, immunity to electronic jamming, and minimal signal leakage.
Strategic Advantages:
i.Stealth Detection: Capable of identifying low-observable targets, including platforms like China’s J-20 stealth aircraft and Pakistan’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), at extended ranges to effectively counter regional threats.

Researchers Build World’s First Silicon Free Computer Using 2D Materials
In June 2025, Researchers at Pennsylvania (United States of America, USA) based Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) have built a computer from scratch without silicon, a “milestone” in showing the possibility to replace the material that fuelled the bulk of technology advancements, by making devices smaller and faster.
i.The computer was built at a nanofabrication unit at the Penn State. The research team has demonstrated the successful working of the world’s first Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) computer, made using Two-Dimensional (2D) materials, which are paper-thin, at the nano-level.
ii.CMOS is widely used in designing electronic circuits, including microprocessors, microcontrollers, memory chips, and other digital logic circuits. It consumes low power and accommodates more components.
iii.The development is acknowledged as pioneering and a starting point in creating alternatives to silicon, and a roadmap for the new generation of smaller and more flexible electronics.

US Open 2025: Ayush Shetty wins Men’s Single title; Tanvi Sharma Finishes as Runner-up
In June 2025, Indian badminton player Ayush Shetty (World No. 34) clinched his maiden Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour title by defeating Canada’s Brian Yang (World No. 33) in the Men’s Singles final of the 2025 US Open Badminton Tournament, a BWF Super 300 event, held at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States of America (USA).

  • Ayush Shetty, a bronze medallist at the 2023 junior world championships, won the title by defeating Brian Yang in straight games with a scoreline of 21-18, 21-13.
  • Yonex US Open 2025 held from from 24 to 29 June 2025.

i.With this win, he became the first Indian shuttler to win a BWF title in the 2025 season, ending India’s wait for an overseas men’s singles title since Lakshya Sen’s victory at the 2023 Canada Open.
ii.In the women’s singles final of the US Open 2025, 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma created history by becoming the youngest Indian to reach a BWF World Tour final.
iii. Although she finished as runner-up, losing to USA’s Beiwen Zhang with a score of 11-21, 21-16, 10-21, her notable wins against Nguyễn Thùy Linh of Vietnam(World No. 12) and Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh highlighted her emerging talent.
iv.The total prize money for this tournament was USD 240,000. Each singles title winner received USD 18,000, while the runner-up received USD 9,120.

  • The theme for 2025 GST Day is “GST-Simplifying Taxes: Empowering Citizens,” reflecting efforts to streamline tax processes and strengthen compliance.

Background:
i.GST was launched in India on 1 July 2017. On 30 June 2018, the Government of India (GoI) decided to celebrate 1 July every year as ‘GST Day’.
ii.The first GST Day was observed on 1 July 2018 to mark one year of this major tax reform.
Key Points:
i.In the Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25), India’s GST collection achieved its highest-ever gross collection of Rs.22.08 lakh crore, recording 9.4% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) growth from Rs. 20.18 lakh crore in FY24.

  • As of 30 April 2025, India has more than 1.51 crore active GST-registered taxpayers.

National Chartered Accountants Day 2025 – July 1 National Chartered Accountants Day (CA Day) is observed every year on 1st July to honour the contributions and professionalism of Chartered Accountants (CAs) who play a crucial role in ensuring financial transparency and economic growth in India.

  • The day is observed to commemorate the founding of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in the year 1949.
  • July 1, 2025, marks the 77th anniversary of the ICAI.

Background:
i.Before the establishment of the ICAI, accountancy in India was supervised under the Indian Companies Act 1913 by the British Government.
ii.In 1930, the Government of India(GoI) maintained a Register of Accountants, and professionals listed were called Registered Accountants.
iii.Due to the absence of a dedicated regulatory framework, an expert committee was formed in 1948 to recommend reforms. Based on its recommendation, the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 was passed by the Parliament of India, leading to the establishment of the ICAI on 1st July 1949 to regulate and develop the Chartered Accountancy profession in India.
iv.Since then, this day has been celebrated annually to honour the contributions of Chartered Accountants(CA) in promoting transparency, financial discipline, and ethical practices across various industries.
About ICAI:
i.The ICAI is a statutory body operated under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA), GoI. ICAI is responsible for regulating the education, training, examination, and professional conduct of CAs in India.
ii.ICAI is recognised as the world’s second-largest professional accounting body, with over 3.8 lakh members and more than 8 lakh students pursuing the Chartered Accountancy course as of 2025.

In June 2025, Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar launched the Raj Bhavan Annadhan Scheme in the presence of Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai and Chief Minister(CM) Dr Pramod Sawant at the Old Durbar Hall, Panaji(Goa).

  • A cheque worth Rs 1,20,000 was handed over to Goa Street Providence organisation, while financial aid of Rs.25,000 each was provided to approximately 40 patients during the event.

i.Under the scheme, Goa Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai will donate royalties from his published books to support needy cancer and dialysis patients.
ii.Financial assistance from the Governor’s Discretionary Fund, facilitated by Goa CM Dr Pramod Sawant, benefited around 40 patients undergoing cancer treatment and dialysis.
