On January 01, 2020 India and Pakistan exchanged lists of nuclear installations. The 2 countries have agreed to not be targeted incase of hostilities in continuation of the 3 decade old tradition. The exchanges were shared through diplomatic channels simultaneously at New Delhi and Islamabad (Pakistan).The other events in brief are as follows:Data shared by India and Pakistan:
i.Nuclear installation list:
Pact: The nuclear installation exchange was done under the terms of the under the agreement on prohibition of attack against nuclear installations between India and Pakistan that came into force on January 27, 1991.
- Under the agreement, nuclear installations list will be shared every year on January 1st.
ii.Data of both country nationals in prison shared: India and Pakistan have also shared lists of their nationals held in prisons in other country. India also seeks for early release of its civilian prisoners, missing defence personnel and fishermen.
- Pact:Â The information is exchanged under the Agreement on Consular Access pact signed in May 2008.
- The exchange of “comprehensive lists” of detainees will be shared on 1 January and 1 July every year.
iii.Prisoners data:
- Pakistani prisoners:Â A list of 267 Pakistani civilians and 99 fishermen in Indian prisons were handed over by India.
- Indian prisoners:Â Pakistan handed over list of 55 Indian or believed to be civilians and 227 fishermen in custody.
- Meanwhile India has also urged Pakistan to take necessary action to confirm nationality status of 82 Pakistani prisoners in India.
