World Thinking Day - February 22 2022 new

World Thinking Day(WTD) is annually observed across the globe on 22nd February by the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 150 countries across the world to speak up on gender equality and climate change. 

The day is annually celebrated and organised by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts(WAGGGS). 

  • World Thinking Day, celebrated since 1926, is a day of international friendship. 

The theme for World Thinking Day 2022 is “Our World, Our Equal Future: The Environment & Gender Equality”.  

  • WTD 2022 starts a 3-year journey for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to become environmentally conscious leaders.

World Thinking Day theme 2022-2024:

i.The World Thinking Day theme from 2022-2024 will be ‘Our World, Our Future.’

ii.Each year will build on the environmental theme and explore the relationship between the environment and other global concerns.

  • 2022: Our World, Our Equal Future; The Environment and Gender Equality.
  • 2023: Our World, Our Thriving Future; The Environment and Global Poverty.
  • 2024: Our World, Our Peaceful Future; The Environment, Peace and Security.

Background:

i.In 1926, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts delegates from across the globe met in the United States of America(USA) for the 4th World Conference and proclaimed 22nd February as the Thinking Day, a special annual day for the Girl Guides and Girl Scout to express their thanks and appreciation for our international Movement. 

ii.In 1999, at the 30th World Conference in Dublin, Ireland, the delegates from across the globe decided to rename the day from Thinking Day to World Thinking Day. 

Why February 22?

22nd February was chosen to mark the birth anniversary of both Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scout Movement, and Olave Baden-Powell, who was World Chief Guide.

World Thinking Day Fund

i.The World Thinking Day Fund offers various life-changing opportunities for the girls and members of the WAGGGS and supports them to transform their communities. 

ii.The fundraising aspect of World Thinking Day started in 1932.
