World Hunger Day is annually observed across the globe on 28th May to create awareness about the 815 million people across the globe who are living in chronic hunger. The day also aims to celebrate the sustainable solution to hunger and poverty.
The World Hunger Day was the initiative started by The Hunger Project in 2011.
The theme of World Hunger Day 2021 is “Access Ends Hunger”.
Under the theme, the day highlights the importance of access to education, health care and technology in ending hunger.
Hunger Project:
The Hunger project founded in 1977 is a movement of people from around 23 countries working to sustainably end hunger.
Key Facts:
i.Around 690 million people across the globe live in chronic hunger out of which around 60% are women.
ii.Around 98% of people suffering from undernourishment lives in low and middle-income countries.
iiiAccording to the World Food Programme, around 135 million people suffer from acute hunger majorly due to man-made conflicts, climate change and economic downturns.
