  2. In a flight of 600 km, an aircraft was slowed down due to bad weather. Its average speed for the trip was reduced by 200 km/hr and the time of flight increased by 30 minutes. The duration of the flight is:
    A. 2 hours
    B. 1hour
    C. 4hours
    D. 5 hours
    [su_accordion]
    Ans – B. 1hour
    Explanation:
    Let the duration of the flight be x hours.
    Then, 600/X – 600/x + (1/2) = 200
    600/x – 1200/2x + 1 = 200
    x(2x + 1) = 3
    2×2 + x – 3 = 0
    (2x + 3)(x – 1) = 0
    x = 1 hr. [neglecting the -ve value of x]

  3. The Average age of a class of 22 students is 21 years. The average increased by 1 when the teacher’s age also included. What is the age of the teacher?
    A. 41
    B. 42
    C. 44
    D. 45
    [su_accordion]
    Ans – C . 44
    Explanation: Avg x Number = Total
    21 years x 22 nos = 462 years (1)
    22 years x 23 nos = 506 years……(2)
    Teacher’s age = (2) – (1) = 506 – 462 = 44 Years

  4. A rectangular park 60 m long and 40 m wide has two concrete crossroads running in the middle of the park and rest of the park has been used as a lawn. If the area of the lawn is 2109 sq. m, then what is the width of the road?
    A. 2
    B. 3 m
    C. 5
    D. Data inadequate
    [su_accordion]

    Answer – B. 3 m
    Explanation: Area of the park = (60 x 40) m2 = 2400 m2.
    Area of the lawn = 2109 m2.
    Area of the crossroads = (2400 – 2109) m2 = 291 m2.

    See road is a rect. and they are intercrossing. let the width be x, then for one road area will be 40x and for the other road will be 60x since 60 and 40 will be the lengths of road.
    also,There will be a common space for two roads. (width of two cross roads is width^2).

    60x + 40x – x^2 = 291
    x^2 – 100x + 291 = 0
    (x – 97)(x – 3) = 0
    x = 3.

    [su_accordion]
    Ans- B. 2%
    Explanation: cost price= rs 60800
    M.P= 60800 +[(20/100)x60800]
    =rs 72960
    Selling price = [(100-15)/100]x 72960= Rs 62016
    profit=62016-60800= Rs 1216
    profit %= (1216/60800)x100=2%

    A. 4236
    B. 4306
    C. 4336
    D. 5336
    [su_accordion]
    Answer – D (5336)
    Explanation: Divisor = (5 x 46) = 230.
    Also, 10 x Q = 230
    Q = 23. And, R = 46.
    Dividend = (230 x 23 + 46) = 5336

    [su_accordion]
    Ans – B (Rs 13,000)
    Explanation: Total cost incurred = Rs.[100/125 x 25 x (95%of 2000) ]
    Rs.(100/125 x 25 x 1900)= Rs.38000
    Loss to the manufacture = Rs [35000-(25 x 1000)]- Rs. 13000

    B. 4
    C. 8
    D. 10
    [su_accordion]
    Answer – A (2)
    Explanation: Number = (119 x Q) + 19 = 17 x (7Q) + (17 + 2) = 17 x (7Q + 1) + 2
    Required remainder = 2

    A. 140 km
    B. 340 km
    C. 480 km
    D. 500 km
    [su_accordion]
    Ans – C (480 km)
    Explanation: Suppose they meet x hours after 14.30 hrs
    Then, 60x = 80 (x – 2) or x = 8
    Required distance = (60 x 8) km = 480 km

  10. Ten years ago, Kumar was thrice as old as Selva was but 10 years hence, he will be only twice as old. Find Selva’s present age?
    A. 30
    B. 32
    C. 34
    D. 36
    [su_accordion]
    Ans – A (30)
    Explanation: Let Kumar’s present age be x years and Selva’s present age be y years
    Then, according to the first condition,
    x – 10 = 3(y – 10)
    or, x – 3y = -20 ……..(1)
    Now. Kumar’s age after 10 years = (x + 10) years
    Selva’s age after 10 years = (y + 10)
    (x+10) = 2(y+10)
    or, x – 2y = 10 ……..(2)
    Solving (1) and (2), we get
    x = 70 and y = 30
    Kumar’s age = 70 years and Selva’s age = 30 years
