On 15th June 2024, the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture chaired by Madhav Kaushik, President of Sahitya Akademi declared a list of 24 recipients of its Bal Sahitya Puraskar and 23 winners of its Yuva Puraskar for the year 2024.
- The works were selected based on the recommendations made by the Jury of 3 members each in concerned language in accordance with rules and procedure laid down for the purpose.
Award:
The winners of Sahitya Akademi’s Bal Sahitya Puraskar and Yuva Puraskar 2024 will receive the award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and a cheque of Rs 50,000 each at a ceremony to be held later.
Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2024:
i.It is an annual award established in 2010 for the most outstanding book by an Indian author, 1st published in any of the languages recognized by the Akademi within the 5 years prior to the year, immediately preceding the award year.
ii.This annual award recognizes writers for their contributions to children’s literature in any of the 22 languages listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, as well as in English and Rajasthani.
iii.The book must be creative one not a work of translation or an anthology of multiple authors and is meant for the target readership of 9 to 16 years age group.
iv.The Akademi announced 24 winners in this category and the award will be given for 4 Stories, 5 Short stories, 7 Novels, 6 books of Poetry, 1 Play, and 1 Historical fiction.

Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2024:
i.It is an annual award established in 2011 to recognise young writers of the age 35 years and below in Indian languages.
ii.The Akademi announced 23 winners for this category and the award will be given for 10 Poetry books, 7 Short Stories, 2 collection of Articles, 1 Essays, 1 Novel, 1 Ghazal and 1 Memoir.
Note: Award in Sanskrit Language will be declared at a later date.

About Sahitya Akademi:
i.It is the 2nd highest literary award given by Government of India (GoI) annually, following the Jnanpith Award.
ii.It was established by GoI in 1954 and 1st Sahitya Akademi awards were given in 1955.
iii.The Head office of the Sahitya Akademi is in New Delhi, Delhi.
