Nepal has joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as a dialogue partner.Joining SCO, Nepal will enjoy the benefit of mutual cooperation with the other member nations of SCO.
Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO)
- It is a Beijing based security organization
- It was established in 2001
- The member nations are China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan
- The observer nations are India, Afghanistan, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan
- It aims to promote cooperation on security-related issues and strengthen mutual trust, friendliness and neighborliness among the member states
Nepal joining SCO
- Nepal joined SCO as dialogue partner after memorandum was signed by SCO secretary-general Rashid Olimov and Nepalese Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi
- Nepal will adhere to the principles, values and objectives of the vibrant regional organisation, and participate actively in its future activities and progress
- Being a dialogue partner, Nepal is able to participate in the multi-field cooperation of the SCO
- Azerbaijan was the another nation to join SCO as dialogue partner
