On November 24, 2020, Indian Army successfully test-fired the land-attack version of BrahMos supersonic cruise Missile from the Andaman and Nicobar (AÂ & N) Island Territory. The range of the land-attack version of Brahmos supersonic cruise Missile has been extended to 400 Kms from the original 290 kms.It is a surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missile.
The missile hit the target in the Bay of Bengal accuracy.
Key Points:
i.The Supersonic Missile has a maximum speed of 2.8 Mach (around 3, 450 Kmph).
ii.The Missile has been Indigenised to a large extent by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under its Project PJ 10.
iii.Indian Air Force (IAF) & Indian Navy are also set to carry out seperate test-firing of the new version of the air-launched and naval versions of Brahmos.
iv.India has deployed Brahmos in several strategic locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.
BrahMos Missile:
i.BrahMos Missile has been jointly designed, developed and produced by BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd.
ii.BrahMos Aerospace is a Joint Venture (JV) between India’s DRDO and NPO Mashinostroyenia-NPOM (formerly Federal State Unitary Enterprise NPO Mashinostroyenia of Russia).
iii.The missile can be launched from Submarines, Ships, Aircrafts & Land Platforms.
