Hello Aspirants. Here we are posting some of the questions of Quant section from Mock Test-3 along with solutions.

  1. Sixteen men can complete a work in 12 days. Twenty four children can complete the same work in 18 days. Twelve men and eight children started working and after 8 days three more children joined them. How many days will they now take to complete the remaining work?
    A) 2
    B) 4
    C) 6
    D) 8
    E) 10
    B) 4
    Explanation:
    16 m = 12 D so, 1 m can do in 16*12 days, so 12 m can do in 16*12/12 = 16 days
    24 c = 18 d, so 1 c can do in 24*18 days, so 8 c can do in 24*18/8 = 54 days and 3 c can do in 24*18/3 = 144 days
    Now let after 8 days, x more days are required by all (12m + 8c) + 3c
    So (8+x)/16 + (8+x)/54 + x/144 = 1
    Solve for x

  2. The ratio of the number of boys and girls in a school is 3 : 2. If 20% of the boys and 25% of the girls are scholarship holders, what percentage of the students does not get the scholarship?
    A) 72
    B) 70
    C) 56
    D) 80
    E) 78
    E) 1/13
    B) 1/6
    Explanation:
Number of boys = 3x, number of girls = 2x
    Boys that do not scholarship = 80/100 * 3x = 12x/5
    Girls that do not scholarship = 75/100 * 2x = 3x/2
    Total students who do not get sch. = 12x/5 + 3x/2 = 39x/10
% of students who do not get sch. = Total students who do not get sch./total students in school *100
    = (39x/10) / 5x * 100 = 78%

  3. A fruit vendor purchased 21 apples for Rs 180. 33 1/3% of the apples were rotten and had to be thrown away. What price should the trader charge per apple if he wants to earn a profit of 16 2/3%?
    A. Rs 28
    B. Rs 15
    C. Rs 22
    D. Rs 25
    B. Rs 15
    Explanation:
    33 1/3 % rotten implies 100/3 * 100 *21 = 7 rotten
    14 apples left
    For profit of 16 2/3% or 50/3%
    S.P. of 14 apples should be (100 + 50/3)/100 * 180 = 210, find SP of one

  4. A motorboat in still water travels at a speed of 36 kmph. It goes 56 km upstream in 1 hour 45 minutes. The time taken by it to cover the same distance down the stream will be
    A) 2 hours 25 minutes
    B) 3 hours
    C) 1 hour 24 minutes
    D) 2 hours 21 minutes
    E) 2 hours
    C) 1 hour 24 minutes
    Explanation:
Speed of boat in still water (B) = 36 km/hr
    1hr 45 min = 1 + 45/60 = 7/4 hrs
    Upstream speed (U)= 56/(7/4) = 32 km/hr
    B = (D+U)/2, so 36 = (D+32)/2, D = 40 km/hr
    Time for downstream = 56/40 = 7/5 hrs

  5. In vessel A milk and water are in the ratio 6 : 1, and in vessel B milk and water are in the ratio 6 : 5. If one takes equal quantities of mixture from both the vessels and put it in vessel C, then find the ratio of milk to water in vessel C.
    A) 23 : 29
    B) 54 : 17
    C) 54 : 23
    D) 9 : 5
    E) 16 : 9
    C) 54 : 23
    Explanation:
Let x litres put from both vessels
    So new ratio: 6/7 * x + 6/11 * x : 1/7 * x + 5/11 * x

  6. In covering a certain distance, the speeds of A and B are in the ratio of 3 : 4. A takes 30 minutes more than B to reach the destination. The time taken by A to reach the destination is:
    A) 30 minutes
    B) 1 hour
    C) 1 ½ hours
    D) 2 hours
    E) 2 ½ hours
    D) 2 hours
    Explanation:
    Speed of A = 3x, speed of B = 4x
Difference in time to reach destination is 30 min or 1/2 hour
    Total distance = 3x * 4x/(4x – 3x) * 1/2 = 6x
    Time taken by A to travel 6x = 6x/3x = 2 hrs
