    42 +4, 62 -6, 82 +8, 102 -10, 122 +12, 142 -14

  6. Find the volume of a right circular cylinder whose circumference of base is 66 cm and curved surface area is 2640 cm2.
    A) 7720 cm3
    B) 13960 cm3
    C) 13860 cm3
    D) 55440 cm3
    E) None of these
    C) 13860 cm3
    Explanation:
    2ᴨr = 66
    2ᴨrh = 2640
    Find r and h.
    Volume = ᴨr2h

  7. A solution contains alcohol, acid and water in the ratio 1 : 2 : 3, while another solution contains these in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4. If both the solutions are mixed in the ratio 5 : 9, then the percentage of acid in the final solution is
    A) 33 1/3 %
    B) 33%
    C) 50%
    D) 28%
    E) None of these
    A) 33 1/3 %
    Explanation:
    Ratio of acid to alcohol+water in 1st solution = 2 : 4 = 1 : 2
    Ratio of acid to alcohol+water in 2nd solution = 3 : 6 = 1 : 2
They are mixed in ratio 5 : 9
    So ratio of acid to alcohol+water in final solution = 1/3 * 5 + 1/3 * 9 : 2/3 * 5 + 2/3 * 9 = 1 : 2
    So, percentage of acid = 1/(1+2) * 100 = 100/3 %

  8. Out of 8 consonants and 3 vowels, how many words of 3 consonants and 2 vowels can be formed?
    A) 1050
    B) 168
    C) 20160
    D) 25200
    E) None of these
    C) 20160
    Explanation:
    For consonants = 8C3 and for vowels = 3C2
    And for 5 words arrangement = 5!
    So total 8C3 * 3C2 * 5!

  9. A shopkeeper marked all its goods at 60% above the cost price. After increasing the price, he offered a discount of 20% thinking that now he will have a profit of 40% in this transaction. Find his actual profit percent?
    A) 28%
    B) 30%
    C) 32.26%
    D) 34%
    E) 35%
    A) 28%
    Explanation:
    The actual profit% will be 60 – 20 + (60)(-20)/100

  10. A person lent out certain sum on simple interest and the same sum on compound interest at a certain rate of interest per annum. He noticed that the ratio between the difference of compound interest and simple interest of 3 years and 2 years is 35 : 11. The rate of interest per annum is
    A) 20%
    B) 17.2%
    C) 18 2/11%
    D) 22%
    E) 24 5/6%
    C) 18 2/11%
    Explanation:
For 2 years, diff in CI and SI = Pr2/1002
For 3 years diff is Pr2(r+300)/1003
    Pr2/1002 / Pr2(r+300)/1003
    = 11/35

  11. Radha started a business in the year 2012 by investing Rs 25,000. The next year i.e. in 2013 she invested an additional amount of Rs 10,000 and her friend Shikha joined her with an amount of Rs 35,000. In 2014, Radha invested Rs 10,000 more and Preeti joined them with an amount of Rs 35,000. At the end of 3 years, what would be Shikha’s share in the profit of Rs 1,50,000?
    A) Rs 50,000
    B) Rs 45,000
    C) Rs 70,000
    D) Rs 75,000
    E) Rs 40,000
    A) Rs 50,000
    Explanation:
    Profit sharing ratio = 25000 * 1 + 35,000 * 1 + 45,000 * 1 : 35,000 * 2 : 35,000 * 1
    = 3 : 2 : 1
    So shikha’s share = 2/6 * 1,50,000

  12. 12 children take 16 days to complete a work which can be completed by 8 adults in 12 days. 16 adults started working and after 3 days, 10 adults left and 4 children joined them. How many days will it take them to complete the remaining work?
    A) 10
    B) 3
    C) 4
    D) 8
    E) 6
    E) 6
    Explanation:
    12 c in 16 days, so 1 child in 12*16 days. So 4 children in 12*16/4 = 48 days
    8 a in 12 days, so 1 adult in 8*12 days. 16 adults in 8*12/16 = 6 days
    16 adults worked for 3 days, so in 3 days they do 1/6 * 3 = ½ work
    10 adults left, 6 left, 6 adults do in 8*12/6 = 16 days
    So 6 adults and 4 children’s 1 day work = 1/16 + 1/48 = 1/12. Let they complete remaining work (1 – ½ = ½) in x days
    So 1/12 * x = ½
    x = 6

  13. The perimeter of square is equal to twice the perimeter of a rectangle of length 6 cm and breadth 5 cm. What is the circumference of a semicircle whose diameter is equal to the side of the square?
    A) 28.28 cm
    B) 27.56 cm
    C) 23.54 cm
    D) 34.56 cm
    E) None of these
    A) 28.28 cm
    Explanation:
    Perimeter of rect = 2[6+5] = 22 cm
    Perimeter of square = 2*22 = 44 cm
    Side of square = 44/4 = 11 cm
Diameter of semicircle = 11 cm
    Circumference of semicircle = ᴨd/2 + d
