Indian Coastal Guard Commissioned ICGS Amogh

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) at Paradip Port (Odisha) commissioned ICGS Amogh, a fast patrol vessel (FPV), to enhance coastal security. The vessel was built by the Kerala-based Cochin Shipyard Limited. Amogh is 50-metre long and it can achieve a maximum speed of 35 knots (63 kmph). The vessel is also fitted with state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipment. Last year, the ICG had commissioned interceptor vessels ‘Vajra’ and ‘ICGS C-425‘ at Paradip.

  • The ICG has jurisdiction over the territorial waters of India, which includes the contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone.
  • February 1 is observed as Coast Guard day. ICG’s Motto – Protector of Ocean. 
  • Vice Admiral Anurag Gopalan Thaplial is the current Director General of ICG. 
  • In India, the major ship building centres are located at Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata, Kochi and Mumbai.
