Eight persons – A, B, C, D, P, Q, R and S are sitting in a circle. Some are facing the centre and others away from the centre such that no two adjacent persons are facing away from the centre.
A sits to the immediate left of C and exactly one among them is facing the centre. S and Q are facing each other. D sits second to the right of A as was as to R. P sits second to the left of R. Q sits to the immediate left of D. B sits third to the right of P.

  1. Who are facing away from the centre?
    A) D, A and P
    B) A and P
    C) A and D
    D) D and P
    E) Cannot be determined
    C) A and D
    Explanation:

    Note that two adjacent persons can face the centre but two adjacent persons cannot away from centre.
    S and Q face each other. This means they are facing centre facing each other. Start with this.main_day7_1
    Now Q is immediate left of D. There can be two arrangements for this:main_day7_2
    You can also get the right arrangement in your first attempt, but if not then follow all arrangements.
    Now D is second to right of A:main_day7_3
    Now continue one by one with all possibilities to put D as second to the right of R. [Remember no two adjacent persons away from centre]. You will see that only 3rd arrangement does not give any contradiction. Continue with thismain_day7_4

  2. Who sits to the immediate right of D?
    A) Q
    B) B
    C) R
    D) S
    E) None of these

    A) A is sitting second to the right of D
    B) There are two persons sitting between P and R.
    C) R is sitting between P and B.
    D) Q is sitting second to the right of B.
    E) None of the above is correct.
    D) Q is sitting second to the right of B.

    A) √52 km
    B) 4√52 km
    C) 52 km
    D) 2√52 km
    E) √104 km

    Explanation: main_day7_5

    AB = √BC2 + CA2
    AB = √82 + 122
    AB = √208
