On 18th April, To protect the medical personnel fighting against the COVID-19, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) along with MAF Clothing Private Limited,developed and certified a polypropylene spun-laminated, multilayered non-woven fabric based coverall which are highly cost-effective than the other manufacturers.Key Points:
i.The CSIR-NAl team lead by Dr. Harish C Barshilia, Dr.Hemant Kumar Shukla, and Viju of MAF worked on finding the solution to find the suitable idigenous materials and innovative manufacturing processes.
ii.5000 units are estimated to be manufactured by the first week of production and planned to increase the production up to 10,000 to 20,000 units in the second and third week, the CSIR-NAL is planning to augment the production capacity to 30,000 units per day in the fourth week.
iii.The Coveralls qualified for use after going through the stringent testing at South India Textile Research Association (SITRA), Coimbatore.
iv.The fabric stands the test of durability and well known for its sterility, ability to repel liquid, and bar bacteria. The joints of the suit are well sealed using innovative manufacturing processes using slide machines making the suit non-penetrable by neither blood nor virus.
v.The price of the product is Rs.500 to 600 per piece which is very less compared to the products available in the market which is Rs.2,000 to 3,000 per piece.
