On the occasion of World Toilet Day (November 20, 2019), the Swachh Survekshan Grameen Awards 2019 were conferred upon top-ranked states, Union Territories (UTs), and districts in the various categories by Shri D.V. Sadananda Gowdaand,The Union Minister of the Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers & Union Minister of State of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Shri Rattan Lal Kataria at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra, New Delhi.
The top ranked States and Districts which received awards are as below:

Key Points:
i.Uttar Pradesh adjudged as the State with Maximum Citizen Participation.
Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA), Hindustan Unilever Limited and AMUL (Anand Milk Union Limited) has been felicitated for their great contribution under the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign-2019 towards effective plastic waste management.
ii.Top Performering Large States : Tamil Nadu topped the list among the larger states category with the population of more than /equal to 30 lakh. Haryana’s ranked number 1 in the previous edition of Swachh Survekshan Grameen in 2018.
iii.Top performing smaller states: In smaller states and UTs category( less than 30 lakh population), Mizoram & Daman and Diu secured the 1st position .
iv. 5 of the top 10 cleanest districts in 2019 are from Haryana while 5 of the 10 dirtiest districts are from Odisha.

v.Top Performing districts: Peddapalli district of Telangana was conferred with the award of top district of India in terms of sanitation and cleanliness. Faridabad of Haryana and Rewari bagged the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

About Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019:
It was undertaken from 14,August to 30,September,2019 with the aim to recognise the top performing states & districts on the basis of quantitative and qualitative sanitation criteria by covering 33 states ,union territories (UTs).It involves 683 districts of total and 17,209 villages.
Ranking : It is based on a set of parameters under which 30 % weightage is given to direct observation of researchers .They checked the availability & usage of toilets, status of water logging and plastic littering.
35 % scores are provided to people feedback received online, during group meetings and from famous influencers. Another 35 % marks given to service level progress.
