Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), an autonomous society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), celebrated its 33rd Foundation Day on 5th June 2024 at a special event held in New Delhi, Delhi).
- The foundation day event was held under the theme “Positioning Bharat as a Tech Product Nation”.
Significance: STPI, founded on 5th June 1991, commemorates over 3 decades of exceptional contributions towards the Indian technology sector in areas of software exports and also promoting modern tech startup ecosystems.
Key People: S. Krishnan, Secretary(MeitY), Arvind Kumar, Director General (DG) of STPI, Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director (MD) of NVIDIA and Tejas Goenka, MD of Tally Solutions were present during the event.
Highlights of the Event:
i.STPI launched two new web portals, SayujNet, a networking and resource discovery platform, and STPI-Workspace, an STPI Workspace portal, to strengthen the tech startup ecosystem in terms of networking and affordable incubation space in India.
- These portals aim to bolster the tech startup network and offer affordable incubation initiatives in India.
ii.STPI also announced its new initiative under the brand name “Ananta”, to develop a strong cloud network made by Indians for Indians.
- This will offer various cloud computing services such as Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Graphical Processing Unit (GPU).
STPI Signed Two MoUs to bolster Skill Development & Startup Ecosystem
During the event, STPI signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to develop and nurture a holistic ecosystem to foster the next generation of tech startups in India.
Details of the MoUs:
i.STPI signed a MoU with the Sabudh Foundation to create skill development initiatives and nurture an entrepreneurial training ecosystem in DeepTech for Engineering Graduates.
- Punjab-based SABUDH is a non-profit organisation which trains, educates and innovates data enthusiasts to become changemakers of society using Data Science.
ii.Bengaluru(Karnataka)-based STPINEXT initiatives and DBS Bank India Private Limited signed a MoU to strengthen the tech startup ecosystem in India.
STPI Released Report on “Cutting-Edge Tech Forging India a Software Product Nation”
During the event, S. Krishnan, Secretary (MeitY) released the DeepTech Knowledge Report on “Cutting-Edge Tech Forging India a Software Product Nation” which will serve as the framework for transforming India into the new hub of innovation and entrepreneurship.
- This will also provide key insights into the present state of cutting-edge technologies in India and the challenges and opportunities for growth and innovation.
Key Points:
i.STPI have created 24 Centres of Entrepreneurship (CoEs) and implemented the Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS), which resulted in significant breakthroughs in cutting-edge technologies.
ii.It nurtured over 1000 startups across various domains like Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented reality (AR) and Virtual reality (VR).
iii.At present, STPI has established 65 centres in India.
