Senior communist party leader Govind Pansare who was shot at four days ago in Kolhapur passed away at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai on February 20, 2015.
Pansare a Communist leader as well as anti-toll activist was going for a morning walk last Monday along with his wife Uma (70) when he was shot by two bike born assailants who came asking for directions. Pansare’s wife Uma also suffered injuries when she tried to fight off the assailants. However Uma is currently recovering in the hospital.
- Comrade Govind Pansare [1933-2015] was a leader of Communist Party of India (CPI), Marxist intellectual, writer, public speaker, labour leader, and advocate.
- He was known for his pioneering work on the biographical sketch of the revered king Shivaji Maharaj in his book “Shivaji Kon Hota“, which has been translated in numerous Indian languages.
