The SASTRA-Ramanujan Award 2014 was conferred on Professor James Maynard of Oxford University. Prof. Maynard received a citation and cash award of $10,000 for his outstanding contribution to the field of prime number theory, especially his work on the small gaps problem. He solved the famous problem of Paul Erdos on large gaps between primes.

Professor Krishnaswami Alladi of Univeristy of Florida and Chairman of the award committee read the citation for the award.

The SASTRA Ramanujan Prize, founded by Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) University in Kumbakonam, India, is awarded every year to a young mathematician judged to have done outstanding work in Ramanujan’s fields of interest. The age limit for the prize has been set at 32 (the age at which Ramanujan died), and the cash prize is $10,000.
