On 12th March 2021, The winners of the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2020 were announced by the National Academy of Letters during an event organised for the annual Festival of Letters, held from 12th March 2021 to 14th March 2021.
- Annually the Sahitya Akademi presents the award to the literary works in the 24 languages including English which are recognised by the Akademi.
- The Shatiya Akademi has announced its Sahitya Akademi Awards 2020 in 20 languages, Yuva Puraskar 2020 in 18 languages and Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2020 in 21 languages.
Sahitya Akademi Awards 2020:
i.The Sahitya Akademi Awards 2020 were presented in 20 languages and the award for the remaining 4 languages (Rajasthani, Odia, Malayalam and Nepali) will be announced later.
ii.The winners of the 2020 Sahitya Akademi awards include 7 poetries, 4 novels, 5 short stories, 2 plays, one memoir and one epic poetry.
Prizes:
The award includes a casket of engraved copper plaque, a shawl and an amount of Rs 1,00,000.
Important Awardees:
- Poet Arundhathi Subramaniam received the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020 for her English poetry collection titled “When God is a Traveller” published by HarperCollins.
- M Veerappa Moily, Former Chief Minister of Karnataka and Congress Leader has won the award for his Kannada epic poem title “Sri Bahubali Ahimsa Digvijayam”
- Bengali author Mani Shankar Mukhopadhyay popularly known as Shankar has received the award for his memoirs titled Eka Eka Ekashi

Eligibility:
The awards are presented to the books published by authors of age 35 and below as on January 1 of the year of award.

The award includes a casket of engraved copper plaque and a cheque of Rs.50000.
