Three Indian Companies namely Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Tata Group and Serum Institute of India (SII) are featured on the “TIME100 Most Influential Companies 2024” published by TIME, the New York based American Magazine.
- This is the 4th edition of TIME’s annual list featuring world’s most Most Influential Companies.
- RIL and Tata Group are been featured under the “Titans” category and SII is featured under the “Pioneer” category.
Note: In 2023, Only 2 Indian companies, Meesho (e-commerce company) and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), were featured in the list.
About TIME 100 Most Influential Companies:
i.The TIME 100 Most Influential Companies list is an expansion of TIME’s iconic TIME 100 franchise . The 1st edition of the list was released in 2021.
ii.The list is compiled through nominations from various sectors and poll a global network of contributors, correspondents, as well as external experts.
iii.The editors then evaluate each key factor of the companies based on criteria such as impact, innovation, ambition, and success.
iv.The list categorizes the companies into 5 different categories: Leaders, Disruptors, Innovators, Titans and Pioneers.
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL):
i.With this, RIL has become the only Indian company to feature twice on the TIME100 Most Influential Companies.
- Jio Platforms Limited, a subsidiary of RIL, featured on the inaugural TIME 100 Most Influential Companies List (2021) under the Innovators category.
ii.RIL, founded as textile and polyester company in 1958, is now Inida most valuable company, with a market capitalization of more than USD 200 billion.
iii.Reliance Retail ranked among the top 100 global retailers with over 1.06 billion footfalls over 18000 stores in FY2024.
iv.RIL has set an ambitious goal to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2035.
Tata Group:
i.Tata Group, established in 1868, has vast portfolio ranging from steel, software, watches, and chemicals, to salt, grains, fashion and hotel.
ii.N Chandrasekran, Chairman of Tata Group since 2017, has transformed the group by making investment in tech manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Semi-conductor chips.
iii.In 2023, Tata Group became the 1st Indian company to assemble iphones in India.
iv.Tata Group announced a collaboration with Nvidia to develop an AI cloud in India.
About Serum Institute of India (SII):
i.Pune(Maharashtra)-based vaccine company, SII makes 3.5 billion doses every year including measles, polio etc.
ii.World Health Organisation (WHO) awarded the prequalification status to R21 or Matrix –M malaria vaccines developed jointly by SII and University of Oxford.
Key Highlights of 2024 List:
i.Rare Beauty, founded by American Singer and Actor Selena Gomez, is featured under the “Leaders” categories.
ii.Clime Works AG , a Swiss Company specializing in Direct Air Capture (DAC), is featured under “Innovators” category.
iii.The list also featured noted companies like Microsoft, TikTok, Disney, Pfizer and Bank of America under Titans category; Google and Huawei under Innovators category.
