Symantec antivirus Company known as Symantec Corporation has uncovered an stealth software application (Malware) running sending screenshots, recover deleted files, steal passwords named as Regin. It is quoted to be the sophisticated malicious program ever to be known. Regin has been used for six years against governments, research institutions, individuals and corporations around the world.
It is thought to be created by an government as its additional functionality, presence are undetermined due to its several stealth features it adopts. Regin’s design has been quoted by Symantecas “highly suited for persistent, long-term surveillance operations against targets”.
Symantec said Russia and Saudi Arabia accounted for about half of the Regin malware victims and the other countries were Mexico, Ireland, India, Iran, Afghanistan, Belgium, Austria and Pakistan.
Cybersecurity has hit headlines several times this year due to several breaches of major companies and customer information in US. The breaches led USA to strength its cybersecurity base with secret and open fresh funds, while blaming on Russian and Chinese hackers.
