Senior Indian Audits and Accounts Service (IAAS) officer Rajani Sankaran took over as CMDÂ of Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Ltd (BHAVINI) after the retirement of former CMD Prabhat Kumar.
Sankaran will be the first Indian woman to become the CMD of an atomic power company in India.
Sankaran is a 1989 batch IAAS officer. She has also done a Fellowship in International Auditing from the General Accountability Office, USA.
BHAVINI
BHAVINI is a wholly owned Enterprise of Government of India under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) incorporated on 22nd October 2003 as Public Limited Company under the companies act, 1956 in Chennai.
BHAVINI is currently constructing a 500MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam, Chennai. The PFBR is the forerunner of the future Fast Breeder Reactors and is expected to provide energy security to the country. The PFBR is being built with the design and technology developed at the Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research (IGCAR) located at kalpakkam.
BHAVINI will be the second power utility in India after Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), to use nuclear fuel sources to generate power.
