PM Dedicated Development Projects Worth Rs 4850 cr in Dadra and Nagar Haveli

PM lays foundation stone and dedicates to nation various development projectsOn April 25, 2023, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation various development projects related to health, housing, tourism, education and urban development, worth more than Rs.4850 crore in Silvassa in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Union Territory (UT) of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

  • The development projects include the inauguration of the new campus of NAMO Medical Education & Research Institute in Silvassa, and Laying the foundation stone of 96 development projects in the UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

New Campus of NAMO:

i.PM inaugurated the new campus of NAMO Medical Education & Research Institute, the first and only medical college in the UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. He was accompanied by Praful Patel, the Administrator of UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep.

ii.Background

  • NAMO Medical Education & Research Institute, Silvassa has been developed under the Ministry of Health and family welfare(MoHFW).
  • PM had laid the foundation stone of the medical college in 2019.
  • The infrastructure cost of the medical college which spread over abut 14.45 acres was about Rs 203 crore and it includes multiple features of a library, an academic block with four lecture halls and an auditorium, among others.
  • The hospital is associated with Shree Vinoba Bhave Civil Hospital in Silvassa (earlier known as the Cottage Hospital).

Foundation laid for 96 Projects:

The PM laid the foundation stone and dedicated 96 projects worth more than Rs. 4850 crores to the nation at Sayli ground, Silvassa.

  • Some of the projects include government schools at Morkhal, Kherdi, Sindoni and Masat of Dadra and Nagar Haveli District, government schools at  Ambawadi, Pariyari, Damanwada, Khariwad and Government Engineering College, Daman.
  • Beautification, strengthening and widening of various roads in Dadra and Nagar Haveli district, fish market and shopping complex at Moti Daman and Nani Daman.
  • Augmentation of water supply scheme in Nani Daman.

Key initiatives Undertaken:

i.As per the statement of PM, work has been done on the physical and social infrastructure in the UT with an allocation of Rs 5500 crores in the last few years.

ii.He also mentioned the initiatives undertaken such as LED-lit streets, door-to-door waste collection, 100% waste processing, and the new Industrial Policy of the state (which increased industry and employment in the UT).

iii.Hospital: PM stated that a new 300-bed hospital is under construction in the UT and permission has been granted for a new Ayurvedic hospital.

iv.Referring to the International Year of Millets, the PM mentioned the UT’s local millets like Nagali and Nachni.

v.Housing: Prime Minister noted that more than 1200 families have got their own houses in Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and the women are given an equal share in the houses under PM Awas Yojana.

  • PM also handed over the house keys to beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) – Urban from Diu and Silvassa.

vi.Education: PM mentioned the educational institutions that are opening campuses in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. He mentioned the NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) satellite campus in Daman, the Gujarat National Law University campus in Silvassa, and the IIIT(Indian Institute of Information Technology) Vadodara (Gujarat) campus in Diu.
