ISSF Junior World Championships 2023: India Finished 2nd with 17 medals

India won 17 Medals(6 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze)and secured the 2nd spot in the overall medal tally of the 3rd edition International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championships 2023Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun. The event held from 14th July to 25th July 2023 at Changwon Shooting Range, Changwon, South Korea.

  • China topped the medal tally with 28 medals(12 Golds, 9 Silver and 7 Bronze).

Note: 

Previously India topped the medal tally with 43 medals(17 Gold, 16 Silver and 10 Bronze) in ISSF Junior World Championships 2021 at Lima, Peru.

Highlights:

i.The 19-year old Kamaljeet won two golds in the men’s 50m pistol event and the 50m pistol men’s team event along with Ankait Tomar and Sandeep Bishnoi.

ii.Abhinav Shaw and Gautami Bhanot won the gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team.

  • Gautami Bhanot also won the silver medal in 10m air rifle women’s team along with Uttam Sonam Maskar and Swati Chowdhury.
  • Abhinav Shaw also won the gold medal in 10m air rifle men’s team along with Srikanth Dhanush and Parth Rakesh Mane.

iii.Sainyam won three medals including a gold in 10m air pistol women, and a bronze each in the 10m air pistol mixed team and women’s team events.

iv.Sameer, Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu and Mahesh Anandakumar won silver medal in the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team event.

  • They totalled 1730 points to finish behind China’s 1747, which equalled the existing junior world record in the event.

v.Indian pair of Harmehar Singh Lally and Sanjana Sood bagged a silver medal in the skeet mixed team event.

Participation:

i.A total of 90 Indian shooters participated in pistol, rifle and shotgun events in the under-21 age category.

ii.India’s contingent were the largest among all, followed by 66 shooters from South Korea and 46 Shooters from the United States of America(USA).

iii.Around 550 shooters from 44 countries participated in the event.
