  1. An article marked for Rs 300 was bought at Rs 200. The ratio of profit/loss percent to discount given is 3 : 2. Find the profit/loss percent.
    A) 30% profit
    B) 25% profit
    C) 15% loss
    D) 20% profit
    E) 25% loss
    B) 25% profit
    Explanation:

    Use MP = [(100+p/l%)/(100-d%)] * CP
    If loss:
    300 = [(100-3x)/(100-2x)] * 200
    Solve, 300 = 200
    So does not get anything
    If profit:
    300 = [(100+3x)/(100-2x)] * 200
    Solve, x = 100/12
    So profit% = 3*(100/12)

  2. A can complete a work in half the time taken by B to do it. And also C can complete the same work in one-third of the time taken by A. All three work for 30 days, after which B leaves. If the remaining work is completed by A and C in 18 more days, then what is the number of days in which A can alone complete the work?
    A) 207
    B) 125
    C) 414
    D) 252
    E) 138
    A) 207
    Explanation:

    Let B’s 1 day’s work = 1/x
    Then A does double the work in 1 day, so A’s 1 day’s work = 2*(1/x) = 2/x
    Then C can do thrice the work in 1 day, so C’s 1 day’s work = 3*(2/x)
    Now
    [(1/x) +(2/x) + (6/x)] * 30 + [(2/x) + (6/x)] * 18 = 1
    Solve, x = 414
    So A’s 1 day’s work = 2/x = 2/414 = 1/207
So days to complete work alone = 207

  3. The ratio of monthly incomes of A and B is 6 : 5. The ratio of their monthly expenditure is 3 : 2. If B saves 1/4th of his income, then what is the ratio of their monthly savings?
    A) 3 : 5
    B) 3 : 10
    C) 4 : 9
    D) 1 : 2
    E) 3 : 8
    B) 3 : 10
    Explanation:

    Monthly incomes of A = 6x, B = 5x
    Expenditure of A = 3y, of B = 2y
    So savings of B = 5x – 2y
    Its given that B saves 1/4 of his salary, so 5x – 2y = (1/4)*5x
    Solve, y = (15/8)*x
    Ratio of monthly savings is
    6x – 3y : 5x – 2y
    6x – 3*(15/8)*x : 5x – 2*(15/8)*x
    Solve, 3 : 10

  4. An average of ten positive integers is to be find out, but mistakenly the digits of one of the number was interchanged and due to which the average came out to be 1.8 less than the actual one. If the all the numbers taken are two digit numbers, find the difference between the digits of this number.
    A) 2
    B) 4
    C) 3
    D) 5
    E) 1
    A) 2
    Explanation:

Let the sum of 9 numbers except the interchanged number is ‘a’
And let the number be (10x+y)
    Then the average becomes [a+(10x+y)]/10
But if digits interchanged, then average becomes [a+(10y+x)]/10
    So [a+(10y+x)]/10 = [a+(10x+y)]/10 – 1.8
    Solve, x – y = 2

  5. A salesman has a salary of Rs 1500 and plus he is given an additional 5% commission on the sale value of the units above 200. The sale value of each unit is Rs 200. In a month in which his total earnings are Rs 12,000, how much number of units has he sold?
    A) 850
    B) 1050
    C) 1350
    D) 1250
    E) None of these
    D) 1250
    Explanation:

Let the number of units above 200 which he sold in a month is x,
Since value of each unit is Rs 200, then value of x units becomes 200*x
He earns 5% commission on Rs 200x and this makes his salary 12000 in that month
    So 12000 = 1500 + (5/100) * 200x
    Solve, x = 1050
Number of units above 200 is 1050, so total units sold = 1050+200

    A) 17
    B) 19
    C) 21
    D) 15
    E) 16
    C) 21
    Explanation:

There are 2 series in alternate numbers
In one difference of 2, in second prime numbers less than 29
    29, 27, 25, 23, 21
    29, 23, 19, 17
