The Colombian government and Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels signed an armistice and demilitarization agreement

Purpose of the Agreement: Ended Latin America’s longest war happened in its coca rich forests and hills

Signed between: President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos and FARC leader Timoleon Jimenez

Features of the Agreement:

  • Santos, a former defense minister of Colombia stated the 50 years of militarization has been ended by mutual agreement
  • Demilitarization should be withdrawn with full peace agreement said by the FARC Leader at the end of war
  • Within six months of time, The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) must give up their weapons to United Nations
  • About 7000 members of FARC were gathered in normalization zones for demilitarization process
  • United States welcomed Colombia for the marvelous peace agreement
  • European Union’s foreign representative Federica Mogherini encouraged the Colombian Peace agreement
