NDA Government led by Prime Minister decided to liberate of the Nehruvian five year plans and replace the plans with 15 year vision credentials.

Vision document:
- The current 12th Five-Year Plan will be concluded in the current financial year, 2016-17
- The first 15-year vision document will start from 2017-18, along with a seven-year National Development Agenda
- Schemes, Programmes and Strategies have been framed to achieve the long-term vision
- The mid-term appraisal of the 12th Plan was due after the completion of two-and-a- half years
- For the first Development Agenda, the review would be done in 2019-20, in line with the termination year of the 14th Finance Commission
- The National Development Agenda will deal with issues related to internal security, defence and external affairs
- The Planning Commission of India deal with issues related to defence and internal security
- NITI Aayog to undertake outcome -based monitoring of all government programmes and ministries on a yearly basis
