SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Ananth Tech Set to Launch India’s Private Satellite Broadband ServiceIn July 2025, Hyderabad (Telangana) based Ananth Technologies Limited (ATL) is set to become India’s 1st private company to offer satellite communication (satcom) services using an locally-built geostationary satellite to users across the country.

  • ATL has secured authorisation from Ahmedabad (Gujarat) based space regulator Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) to roll-out broadband-from-space services starting in 2028.
  • It aims to compete with international space-tech giants Elon Musk-owned Starlink, Jeff Bezos-led Amazon Kuiper, Eutelsat OneWeb.

Key Points:
i.ATL is planning to deploy a 4-tonne Geostationary (GEO) communication satellite that will offer a data capacity of maximum 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) to users across the country.
ii.This satellite will be positioned over 35,000 kilometer (km) above Earth, offering broad territorial coverage.
iii. While many international space-tech companies operate in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, located 400 to 2,000 km from Earth’s orbit, ATL will utilize a single geostationary satellite, providing extensive coverage with fewer satellites.

ii.GEO satellites have wider territorial coverage, a single satellite can cover the entire India, unlike  LEO constellations that require various satellites for complete coverage.
Note: As per IN-SPACe, India’s space economy is expected to touch USD 44 billion by 2033, boosting its international share from 2% to 8%.
