On October 9, 2024, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 7,600 crore in Maharashtra.
Upgradation of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur:
The PM laid the foundation stone of the upgradation of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, Maharashtra, with an estimated cost of Rs 7,000 crore.
- This project aims to boost growth in manufacturing, aviation, tourism, logistics, and healthcare in Nagpur and the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
New Integrated Terminal at Shirdi Airport:
The PM also laid the foundation stone of New Integrated Terminal Building at Shirdi Airport costing over Rs 645 crore. This terminal will enhance facilities for religious tourists.
- Its construction will be inspired by the spiritual neem tree associated with Sai Baba.
Operationalization of 10 Government Medical Colleges:
PM Modi announced the operationalisation of 10 Government Medical Colleges in Maharashtra. The colleges are located in Mumbai, Nashik, Jalna, Amravati, Gadchiroli, Buldhana, Washim, Bhandara, Hingoli, and Ambernath.
- These colleges will increase undergraduate and postgraduate seats and provide specialized tertiary healthcare.
- This initiative is on the lines to ensure affordable and accessible healthcare for all.
Inauguration of Indian Institute of Skills, Mumbai:
PM Modi inaugurated the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in Mumbai under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between Tata Education and Development Trust and Government of India (GoI).
- It aimed at creating an industry-ready workforce through advanced technology and hands-on training.
- It will offer training in specialized fields such as mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and robotics.
- This establishment is on the lines to position India as the ‘Skill Capital of the World’.
Inauguration of Vidya Samiksha Kendra:
The PM launched the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) in Maharashtra, will provide academic and administrative insights to students, teachers, and administrators in schools through live chatbots such as Smart Upasthiti, Swadhyay etc.
- It aims to help schools manage resources, strengthen parent-state connections, and enhance teaching and student learning with curated resources.
