World-Piano-Day

World Piano Day is annually observed across the globe on the 88th day of the year (mostly falls on 29th or 28th March), which is the same as the number of keys on the piano, with an aim to celebrate the Piano, an acoustic, keyboard, stringed percussion instrument.

  • The day aims to create a platform to bring together piano players from all around the world.
  • The day also encourages pianists from across the globe to contribute their pieces.

The World Piano Day 2022 falls on 29th March 2022.

  • The World Piano Day 2023 will be observed on 29th March 2023.

Background:

The idea of Piano Day was initiated by German pianist/composer/producer Nils Frahm.

The first-ever World Piano day was celebrated on 29th March 2015.

Note:

In 2015 the Piano Day team announced the construction of a vertical concert grand piano, the Klavins M450.

History of Piano:

i.Bartolomeo Cristofori di Francesco, an Italian maker of musical instruments, invented the harpsichord in 1700, which is very similar to the modern-day piano.

ii.It was initially named “clavicembalo col piano e forte,” but was later renamed piano.
