Global Wind Day 2021

Global Wind Day is annually observed across the globe on 15th June to create awareness on the importance of Wind Energy and its contribution to the energy system. The day is dedicated to discovering wind energy and its power and possibilities to enhance the energy system, decarbonise the economies and increase job opportunities and growth.
The European Wind Energy Association(EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council(GWEC) coordinates the Global Wind Day through a network of their partners.

i.In 2007 the Wind Day was first observed as the European Wind Day by the European Wind Energy Association(EWEA).

ii.With the joint efforts of the EWEA and GWEC, The Wind Day became a global event in 2009 and has been observed as Global Wind Day since 15th June 2009.

Wind Energy and its importance:

i.Wind energy or wind power is created using a wind turbine, a device that channels the power of the wind to generate electricity.

ii.According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Wind energy is one of the fastest-growing renewable energy sources in the world.

iii.The data of IRENA states that the globally installed wind generation capacity (both onshore and offshore) has increased from 7.5 gigawatts (GW) in 1997 to some 564 GW by 2018.
