  1. What is the ratio of the number of boys to girls in Political Science subject?
    A) 3 : 2
    B) 3 : 4
    C) 4 : 5
    D) 2 : 3
    E) 3 : 5
    B) 3 : 4
    Explanation:

    Put on number line
    Girls in political science = (30/100) * 1200 = 360
    Total students in political science = (35/100) * 1800 = 630
    So boys = 630-360 = 270
    Ratio = 270 : 360

  2. The number of girls studying Computer is what per cent less than the number of boys studying Computer?
    A) 50%
    B) 20%
    C) 80%
    D) 35%
    E) None of these
    B)20%
    Explanation:

    Girls studying Computer = (10/100)*1200 = 120
    Total students in Computer = (15/100)*1800 = 270
    So boys = 270-120 = 150
    Required % = [(150-120)/150] * 100

  3. Number of boys is minimum in which stream?
    A) Math
    B) Biology
    C) Law
    D) Arts
    E) Political Science
    B) Law
    Explanation:

We will have to find number of boys in each of the subjects given in options.
    In Math = (5/100)*1800 – (2/100)*1200 = 66
    In Biology = (13/100)*1800 – (14/100)*1200 = 66
    In Law = (20/100)*1800 – (30/100)*1200 = 0
The number cannot be less than 0 in any stream, so need to find any further.

  4. What is the number of boys in Arts stream?
    A) 65
    B) 75
    C) 68
    D) 52
    E) 48
    E) 48
    Explanation:

    (12/100)*1800 – (14/100)*1200 = 48

  5. Number of boys in Political Science stream is what percent of the number of girls in Law?
    A) 70%
    B) 68%
    C) 72%
    D) 75%
    E) None of these
    D) 75%
    Explanation:

    Boys in Political Stream = (35/100)*1800 – (30/100)*1200 = 270
    Girls in Law = (30/100)*1200 = 360
    So required % = (270/360)*100

  6. A and B together completed half the work in 18 days. B and C completed the remaining work in 12 days. If C can alone complete a work in 36 days, then find the number of days in which A can alone complete the whole work.
    A) 68 days
    B) 72 days
    C) 90 days
    D) 84 days
    E) 52 days
    B) 72 days
    Explanation:

    Given – [(1/A) + (1/B)] * 18 = 1/2
    So (1/A) + (1/B) = 1/36
    Given – [(1/B) + (1/C)] * 12 = 1/2
    So (1/B) + (1/C) = 1/24
    Given 1/C = 1/36
    So 1/B = (1/24) – (1/36) = 1/72
    And thus 1/A = (1/36) – (1/72) = 1/72

  7. A sum of Rs 7.75 made up to 100 coins, which are in the denomination of 5 paise and 10 paise. Find the number of 5 paise coins.
    A) 75
    B) 50
    C) 55
    D) 45
    E) None of these
    D) 45
    Explanation:

    x + y = 100
    (5/100)*x + (10/100)*x = 7.75
Solve both equations and find x.

  8. The time taken by a boat to go 2 km against the stream is 1 hour and to go 1 km along the stream is 10 minutes. What is the time taken by boat to go 5 km in stationary water?
    A) 1 h
    B) 1 h 25 min
    C) 1 h 15 min
    D) 1 h 45 min
    E) 1 h 30 min
    C) 1 h 15 min
    Explanation:

    Downstream speed = 1/ (10/60) = 6 km/hr
    Upstream speed = 2/1 = 2 km/hr
    So speed in still water = (1/2)*(6+2) = 4 km/hr
    So time = 5/4

  9. Four friends – A, B, C and D started a business and their investments were in the ratio 3 : 4: 5: 6. B and C are working partners and they get equal salaries. The ratio of the total annual salary of B and C was 9 : 10. If the total annual profit was Rs 84,000, find B’s salary.
    A) Rs 8,000
    B) Rs 18,000
    C) Rs 12,000
    D) Rs 15,000
    E) Rs 20,000
    D) Rs 15,000
    Explanation:

    Let B’s salary = C’s salary = Rs x
Then profit after their salary given = 84000 – 2x
    So B must get x + [4/(3+4+5+6)] * (84000-2x) and C must get x + [5/(3+4+5+6)] * (84000-2x)
    Their both ratio is 9 : 10.
    So
    [x + (4/18)* (84000-2x)] / [x + (5/18)* (84000-2x)] = 9/10
    Solve, x = 15000

  10. In winters demand for ACs went down so a dealer sold an AC at 25% loss, but in summers when the demand went up, he sold the AC at 20% profit. If the difference in the amounts that he got is Rs 6750, find the cost price of an AC.
    A) Rs 18,000
    B) Rs 10,500
    C) Rs 15,000
    D) Rs 17,500
    E) Rs 12,500
    C) Rs 15,000
    Explanation:

    CP is x
    (120/100)*x – (75/100)*x = 6750
